Team,

I'm new to this forum and would like your help in connecting my Videocon HD STB to my ONKYO HTS-5500. I have already seen posts on directing the Audio through Coaxial cable from STB to HTIB and i have done that. Even after changing the input mode in Setup of HTIB, i still get audio only through stereo mode. I have also changed Audio mode to "Home cinema" in STB. Need your help in setting up the same.

Thanks,
Vinoth

Can you do this way?

instead connect hdmi out of STB to hdmi in of your HT and then HDMI out of your HT to TV. I think your problem should be solved.

I've connected my HDMI out STB ----> HDMI in HT and HDMI out HT -----> TV. I have a Videocon HD STB and itz not a DVR (audio thru HDMI available only in DVR box), so audio needs to be routed through spdif/coaxial cable as suggested by many in this forum.

bpranay,

I believe to have chosen the correct options in the HT setup and also the last comment in the thread states Videocon has stopped providing 5.1 DD. Not sure if this is true and if that's true then i believe we are wasting our time here. Let me check with Videocon CC today.

Thanks,
Vinoth

You will have to connect optical from the tv out to the avr optical in then select external speakers on the tv and select the correct source on the avr. However this is only required if ur playing movies from a USB or from media server where tv is the source. For stb if ur tv used to produce sound earlier through the hdmi cable I see no reason why the avr should not produce the sound. The above post which says to connect the hdmi to avr and then hdmi out to tv should work . However you can also try with the optical.

If the hdmi doesn't work then there is a problem

Shaunik,

I'm getting the stereo sound from STB thru AVR. My concern is DD is missing, even though i see some of the forum members getting DD in Videocon HD STB.

Thank you, will do it today.

do let us know what happened, cos i also got videocon 5900 pack with HD STB and sony w800a and an Onkyo HT 4505, i will create a new thread if i didnt get DD on HD channels but first im searching teh forums for any guides or workarounds by the fellow members here :)

I think none of the dth services in India offer hd sound thro hdmi except tata sky
Guys ...there is no problem with the dth box ..problem is connection...I own a videocon hd d2h...I know the drill...

1.. No dth operator except (( tata sky )) offers hd sound thro hdmi..

2.. Only way to connect ur set top box to ur onkyo is by coax

3.. Once the set up I'd done..it will still produce stero sound only

So to sound setup ..select home cinema ..but u will be mute in channels with no dd5.1 sound....My advice only for hd channels select 5.1 ...

How to do it
1. Select the channel
2. Click on i for info ..
3. Press on the yello button
U will get list of languages avail..scroll thro select language/ dd5.1

No press display on onkyo AVR...u will see

DOLBY D 5.1

Problemo Solved

But the volume in dd5.1 is very low...too low it's worse than stereo...anyways try yours...

Cheers
