A warm hello to all,
I am located in Pune India.
I have been looking for help with my Onkyo AV receiver TX-DS898.
There is no sound. It powers on and does everything else perfectly.
Even the remote works fine. I have checked speaker connections and
settings. No luck. I did locate somebody selling Onkyo amplifiers, but
was told to take it to Mumbai for repair. Finally located the center
in Mumbai. However the courier charges itself to ferry this huge amplifier to
and fro is costing me a bomb.
I want to know if there is someone competent enough in Pune who
could fix this. A contact number or an address would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

Hi,
after submitting my earlier post i noticed a toll free number on the avr itself.
Followed up and got to know that avxellence (contact 26165000) is one of onkyos dealers in Pune. They gave the reference of sharat advani (contact 9890515000) as the person who could help with repairs. He came home and
checked it. Said the avr needed a resoldering job as some joints had become loose. But it was not as simple.the entire avr had to be taken apart to reach
the defective joints. It took him 2 visits each of a good 3 hours. And cost me
Rs.3,500. Still cheaper than sending to Mumbai where courier was only charging
me 1,200 one way. That is 2,400 to and fro and some special packing Rs.300.
Plus the actual repair would be extra.
I wish to thank those who thought of this kind of a site where people can come
on a common platform to discuss, suggest, seek guidance relating to these
issues.

thanks a lot for this. I'm from Pune too and my onkyo receiver just went off yesterday. I tried turning it on and it turns itself off immediately. I've tried resetting it, unplugging all the cables for more than an hour but nothing helped. I'll try contacting the person you have spoken about now since sending the unit to mumbai may be a big pain and my system should be out of warranty anyway.

Wait. Just try to connect it to some other power socket. Last month this happened to my receiver also. It is said to be in protect mode. So tried disconnecting cables and powering on after couple of hours. Nothing worked:mad:.
A final try, changed power socket and voila..it worked:yahoo:

Bumping the old thread.

Have the same onkyo 3400, while re installing had problem with HDMI ports. Now I can get the audio pass from HDMI but no video out.

Contacted Mr Advani but he suggested the HDMI card needs to be replaced costs 7k plus labor. I am not sure whether to go for repair or replacement !

Any other cheap repair option you can suggest in Pune ?

Also, I searched Amazon and found HDMI splitter, will try to take HDMI out to this splitter, take one out to TV and other to onkyo, will that work in getting DTS MA ?

TIA

most of the new onkyo receivers are famous for HDMI board failures because of extensive heat generated by BGM chips.it is a common problem.i come to know that changing caps will cure problem, but not sure.check the net.

@krell thanks for replying.

Could you explain more about this caps ? Unable to find anything on google.

Hi Every one, Any one who can help me to repair my onlyo NR717 receiver in hyderabad.

I got it from US and it worked for a month and stopper starting.

I took it to authorized servicing, they are simply useless.

I kept this a side and now i am using marantz, i hope i could repair it and use it some where or gift it, if not at least sell it to some one who can get it repaired. Keeping is like wasting space.

Contacted the above person for repair of my onkyo.. who charged 2500 upfront and came and checked and told its channel board is bad need to be replaced or repaired which will cost another 15000-20000. (total cost would be 22500 for a avr to be repaired)
Bottom line is * NEVER BUY ANY AVR WHICH DOES NOT HAVE A AFTER SALES SERVBICE*
