Go for panny E5 without any hesitation.very good value for money television.
i bought E5 32 incher a month ago.superb picture quality with fair sound quality(i recommend you buy any good soundbars available in the market.)
and it plays almost all video formats without a problem.

yah panny is undoubdetly good...but best is side by side test with same material and same setting and go for the look u like...also yes pana is better than others in terms of onboard usb play capability......

Well I too considered both of these 2 models, both have their pros and cons. I went for Samsung but you can decide on your own. My observations -

1- Panasonic has IPS panel which is better than Samsung. The viewing angle in better in panasonic E5. In samsung, the picture washes out a bit if your viewing angle is more than 45.

2- Panasonic is also more expensive. Depending on where you buy from, it can be 6k-10k costlier.

3- Samsung plays more formats and files. Panasonic claims to support all the formats but it could not pick my HDD. Maybe Panasonic supports only FAT32 system while Samsung supports both FAT32 and NTFS file systems.

4- Samsung loses out a bit in number of HDMI/USB ports. It has only 1 USB and 2 HDMI ports. It may not be an issue for all people and external HDMI ports are always there.

5- Picture quality is subjective. You'll need to play around with settings in both of these models to find what you like most.

6- E5 has smart TV features while EH5000 does not. Maybe EH5330 is more comparable to E5.

7- Of course, panasonic has extra 2 inches. For some people, size does matter :-)

I personally went for Samsung as it was cheaper. All the smart TV features/HDMI support can be attained by buying external players. Which'll cost much cheaper. In the end, consider your requirements and budget. Go to showrooms, demo both models and them make your decision. Best of luck.

Samsung model is way better in contrast and black level than the pana model. By these properties we judge picture quality of a tv not by viewing angle. SPVA panel in samsung is way ahead in terms of pic quality than IPS panel in panasonic.

2 hdmi port is more than enough for most people also if it's not a smart tv there is no use of extra usb port.

With extra 2 inch there is no perceivable change.

Dont go for EH5000 really a crap model.. Pictures gets totally washed out when increased brightness..
Also compare Panasonic L42E5D with LG 42LS4600 both are equally priced

I have just bought EH5000 after a lot of research, and this TV is awesome in terms of contrast and though presets are limited, you wont need as many. USB is a boon, and it just plays everything from JPG files to FLV format, almost like a PC, something that LG/Sony does not do well. Sound is also very good though I use my old HTDDW885 with the Tata Sky HD box and that gives great results. Panasonic should be good as well, for your info, LG does not make their own panel, they source it from Panasonic, Samsung makes their own panel. Viewing angle is never a problem, with full back lit LED, you get a better contrast (with no local dimming if I am correct); for the comment made by frost, I also had the same issue initially, but the reality is, you do not need that high brightness to enjoy it, too much brightness kills even the best photo taken by the best DSLR in the world. Too much brightness also decreases your panel life and eats more power, harm for eye etc etc. The running power of this TV is stunning - jut 35 watts!

Overall, I am very happy. Give it a time for burn in for 3-4 hours then it improves a lot, and if you are watching through cable and not Sat, picture quality will be lousy, for that low resolution TV will look better.

What crap are you speaking. LG makes IPS panels. Panasonic buys from LG.

Why are u so into LG?.....Panasonic, Sony, Philips, Hitachi, Sharp are some heavy names in video display and image processing business.

Thanks Shyamtanu, mani_tapori for the detailed response...

How about the motion rate effect in EH5000. It is just 60HZ. Do you see any impact due to this lower frequency?

Doesn't matter. I didn't notice any lag even in fast moving sports channels. Of course, you should totally get HD subscription to get most out of your TV.
