Hey,

I recently purchased Oppo BDP-103D (Darbee Edition). I am planning to use it as pre-pro with Tatasky connecting to it as well as movies on NAS and BDs. I will hook it up to a projector when once my media room is ready. In mean time I am using it with my LG 42 inch TV and here are my initial impression.

I picked up the Darbee edition to get good picture on projector but I was really surprise to see improvements it provided on 42 inch TV as well. There is clear improvement in picture quality for Tatasky including the SD channels. Everyone in my family noticed the difference and will to take an extra step to turn on additional device. In addition to the improvement in TS picture, it plays all movies from NAS via SMB really well with no buffering even for the very high res MKVs. Also, good support for subtitles as well both SRT and in-built MVK ones.

The load time for BDs is quite impress almost twice faster than PS3.

I am planning to get region hack once I get my media room ready, for now most of my BDs are imported from US.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.

I recently got Oppo 103, (not the 103D). It is region free. Even without Darbee I feel it has got excellent picture quality. I haven't tried using it with Tatasky yet. I don't have a NAS but Hard disk playback of movies through usb is very good. Even flac files sound great. All in all it is a wonderful piece of kit.
BTW where did you get yours from?

I got mine from Oppo directly and hand carried it from US in my check-in luggage. I might also add the region free mod if I get enough region-C BDs. For now I don't see a need of it.

One thinking I miss on it though is BD-ISO playback.

Thanks

BD ISO playback is going to be missed. I am wondering whether to keep my Dune HD Max for just that. The Dune can be used through the Oppo's HDMI in. I tried Tata sky last night through the Oppo. It definitely improves the picture.

I don't like any firmware based solution as it prevents the future updates. Oppo just added 4K up-scaling for 50/60Hz as well in their latest firmware. I don't want to miss on these. I only have very few BD-ISO and I am converting them to MKV.

I still haven't figured out how to convert 3D ISO, others are working fine.

Thanks.

Hi Rahul's, plan to get one too frm US. Question I hv is does it ply music files and video file through the USB and does the sound quality also improve

It plays music files quite well, even if you use the internal DAC. I have used the digital out from the Oppo to my Peachtree Decco amp which has an ESS Sabre DAC. This definitely improves the sound. Of course video playback is excellent.
If your main priority is to use the Oppo as a DAC for music, try to get the 105. But that will push up your budget

I found the audio quality of Oppo as good as the Logitech squeezebox. If you have a good amp+speakers and if you budget permits you should look at the 105.

The video playback is flawless expect the ISO support.

Thanks

I am contemplating between a marantz ud 5007 player and oppo 103. Any suggestions on audio quality which would be better

Try to audition if you can. Both would be good. It would come down to price and your ears. I am quite happy with the Oppo, but then I haven't heard the Marantz. For video alone, Oppo is probably better.

Hey guys,
I recently bought the Oppo-103D a month ago from a dealer in Mumbai. I must say i am very impressed the way it has been performing. I have a 46 inch tv and it is working perfectly fine on it. The dealer whom i purchased it from told me that
this product is under 1 year full replacement warranty agains manufacturing defect and Region Free, I took a demo and i was convinced that very moment . My son also loves watching movies and i pretty much feel though its quite expensive , but it is totally worth the money ! :D:)

Hi.
I just go to know that There is a new crack which has come in for playing BD-ISO and playing movies on network through the NAS. I think people who are having the Oppo players should ask their dealers about this

Cheers
