I read somewhere that the cheaper BDP-80 are being phased out due to poor sales.. the BDP-83 and BDP-83SE will still be available (and are selling well)

I am one of the poor fellows who purchased the BD-80. It is lying under my bed waiting for a house-shifting as I have no space for a movie setup right now

Can you please give the link?? It has been put in the market to to tackle the midrange budgetted BD player. So dont think it will be phased out, may be with a name change it will come with that price range.

End of Life for Oppo BDP-80 Blu-ray Player

I have also read on other places as well. And as per the link above the company the company replied: "Since we have made no product announcements, we will not be discussing what players may or may not be discontinued."

So it remains to be seen what will happen.

So does that mean I should bury my player in the soil?
Or can I still use it? Whose life are they talking about?

Oppo has removed the BDP-80 from the main page, so I suppose they are closing down the product. Even when you search and locate the product, there is no option to buy it.

Cheers

Itz time to sell off... Generaly discontinued products will cost higher in these kind of segments, we can a see a price hike for the left out pieces by the vendors.

hahaha ... Relax Gobble ...

Unless you are kidding, here's some funda:

The EOL concept is very common in the IT industry and only means that a product can no more be ordered.

OTOH, the EOSL (End of Service Life) is the date after which no support, spares and service are provided directly by the OEM.

Needless to say, EOSL is generally announced well in advance and only after a considerable period after EOL (usually in years).

And again, unless you were joking, hope this helped.

Good day,
pannags

Why dont you sell it? You dont watch movies a lot, you may as well as realise the money and spend more on upgrading your music chain :)

I think the 80 is a great device and much better than the 10k BD players in the market plus its so easily made region free.

Hmmm think I will wait for the day the Oppo BD-80 has a "vintage" tag and sells for a Bomb like 10x the price!! mmmmf! ;)

Imagine the year 2035 "2010 model Oppo player like new in original box packing, only for $3000, rare vintage... only genuine buyers please contact" ... :ohyeah:

Pannags, Yes I was kidding around ... the gyaan will certainly help somebody, do not feel disheartened.

Cheers

And I'll post just next to that ad, "2010 model Oppo player like new in original box packing, only for $2799, rare vintage, rarely used(yeah that media player and high price of blu-rays killed it's usage and VFM;-) )... only genuine buyers please contact"..

hmm - I think the prices of the other models shall come down now. And in that case, bd80 would need to go lower - that can be the reason to get it off.

how many lovers/wives/dependents will you have by then?

you will have many, judging by your (present) use of mattresses (shrieks and scratches).

no money for self!
