Hi

After a looong while.

Just placed the order for Wharfedale Moviestar 65+ with Yamaha RX-V375 & paid (Rs 53692/-) .... Delivery may happen tomorrow or the day-after.

After going through some of the threads - I am beginning to wonder if this is the best combo - or should have stretched and picked the wharf MS100 ...... sigh

My initial budget was 25-40k and was almost going to pick up the Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speakers this morning (its what the wifie wanted for a long time) .... However, when I spoke to Anil and he convinced me otherwise.

I was delaying getting an AVR for ages (thinking I'd put my Technics 4.1 to some use .... but lethargy got the better of me).

So.... here goes

Terry

Hi Terence,

Congrats on your setup and hope you did audition the same somewhere before placing the order. Yamaha amps are not made like before and this is a fact. I have used different AVRs for the past 11 years (Denon / BOSE / Harmon Kardon / Yamaha / Pioneer) and not found anything better than a Marantz receiver. Honestly...nowadays its all about competition and business for AVR makers and not many concentrate on maintaining the quality...see the below link which also has been posted by many FM here..

AV Receiver and Amplifier Power Ratings Trends: How and Why Wattage Ratings are Manipulated | Audioholics

I have been using Marantz NR 1402 with Boston Acoustic Soundware XS 5.1 speakers with a Pioneer Blu Ray player since March 2013 and man the experience is awesome...music never sounded so rich punchy and natural. The movie experience is tops...

HiFi Mart was selling the NR 1504 Marantz (with AirPlay) + Boston Acoustics Soundware for 51k odd with warranty....There are tons of reviews and video demos over the internet to support this...

I am not sure if you can cancel the order...but end of the day..it all depends what appeals to you and your budget.

All the best....hope this helps....

I have heard 65+ with denon 1713 and i find it to be good combo better than ms100 and even dx1(except cosmetics).....anyways if it is good to your ears then it is good....

Dear Piyush, I also ordered 65+ with Yamaha V375 and, I don't know why, did not settle for MS100 (lack of tweeter, perhaps). But, if you heard both, can you explain why 65+ is better?

Congrats, bro. If you got your hands on the AVR and Speakers, please share your experience (sound quality), as I also have ordered today for the same.

Its strange, but none of Wharfedale sites show any listing of MovieStar 65+ (though MovieStar 100 is listed). Don't know, why! Wanted to download User's Manual of 65+. Can anyone post a soft copy of the same?

Hi

Internet searches suggest that there is no major difference in Movie Star 65 and Movie Star 65+ it seems that the + sign was a marketing strategy across continents over the globe....

I stumbled upon 2 links on the net which suggest that the satellites don't have real tweeters but dummy ones....

Wharfedale Moviestar 65+ Review, Price in India, Specifications - AVMAX on Tech2

Gadget Mania: Wharfedale Moviestar Home Theatre speaker Moviestar 65+ - User Review

Both these sites say 3 inch full range driver and this automatically reminds me of the JBL ESC Home Cinema 300 system which is a 5.1 powered speaker setup meant to analog connect a computer or dvd player etc...I did own this years back and it had a dummy tweeter...although it looked like a shiny piezo tweeter...it was not.

The JBL SCS 140BK I still use at my mom's place has real actual tweeters in the satellites as opposed to the JBL 300 (Both use the same satellites but the difference is the tweeter bit.)

Before I purchased the Boston Acoustics Soundware XS 5.1 I did hear the Movie Star 65+ and it immediately reminded me of the JBL Home Cinema 300 series....

The Bostons on the other hand although being cubes, uses a mid bass driver along with a Dome tweeter....the technical aspects indulged me to review them carefully over the net as well as live demos.....today I am frankly quite happy with them and when combined with a Marantz ...it is awesome....Better than wasting money on Bose...it even sounds better that the JBL SCS 140BK I have at my mom's place.

This does not mean that you have done a bad purchase...Wharfedale is a reputed brand and has made a budget product available. End of the day it depends to what level of detail you would expect and performance within your budget. As for me being a DJ all these years has made me first look at the technical aspects in terms of long term performance and ofcourse quality which plays the most major part in my life...

Hope this helps

I like the the sound stage of 65+ better along with more punch in low frequency which according to me is must if usage is 80% movies or more...
That is my opinion and may be different from others which is absolutely ok..

I've a doubt. To the best of my knowledge, output power/impedance of Indian model of "Yamaha RX-V375" is rated @ 6? only (it doesn't go upto 8?), whereas typical impedance of "Wharfedale MovieStar 65+ Super" is rated @ 8?. Isn't it a mismatch? Shall the "Wharfedale MovieStar 65+ Super" speaker system run properly, as expected, on the AVR "Yamaha RX-V375" (Indian model)?

Thanks to @HiFiVision & especially Anil for the guidance in making this decision. Delivery was within 24 hours ... wow.

Just completed the initial setup. I am running into certain problems (which I will post later today) on a separate thread
- Callibration of speakers
- HDMI from my PC > Yamaha [desktop blanks out if cable is connected] ... will post details later

Thanks
Terry

Subwoofer specifications of Wharfedale MovieStar 65+ Super in its User Manual says "LF Response (fb): 45 Hz". What does it mean?

Thanks.

- Vivek Gupta.

I also have same problem. I have connected my PC to Yamaha RX-V375 AVR. My monitor is configured as primary display whereas TV connected to AVR is secondary. If, while working on PC, I switch off the TV or AVR, my primary display (monitor) gets blank for a while and, when display returns, all desktop icons as well as working files are disappeared (nothing is displayed except wallpaper). So, I am forced to keep on the TV and AVR while working on PC. Is there any remedy?

Thanks,

- Vivek.

Recently, I purchased "Wharfedale MovieStar 65+ Super" Speaker system. Specifications of its Subwoofer given on the seller's site were as under:

01. Boundary Position:28-170 Hz;
02. Crossover Range: 35-85 (10 Hz step).

However, when I got the product, I noticed that:
a. No Boundary Position was given in its User Manual;
b. Crossover Range was 70-170 Hz in User Manual as well as on the Subwoofer itself;
c. LF Response (fb) was given as 45 Hz in the User Manual.

Can anybody explain:
i. What is the meaning of "Boundary Position: 28-170 Hz"?
ii. What is the meaning of "LF Response (fb): 45 Hz"?
iii. What is the Frequency Response Range of the Subwoofer (if known to anyone)?
