I am curious to know how is your experience with 1402...........any reviews/comments? I love the sound of Marantz compared to other brands.

Bad luck becz I didn't go for any speakers now as am permitted with limited budget and planning to buy them coming month or the other because they are worth waiting.

Hi,

I purchased a Marantz NR 1402 along with Boston Acoustics soundware XS 5.1 last week....the combination is deadly. It's the best home theatre cum music system at my place.

I used Yamaha + Bose before, then Pioneer AVR + JBL Cinema series and really there is a huge difference in clarity and punch. Although the Boston cube speakers are 100w rms @ 8 ohms each, the Marantz NR 1402 being only 50w rms @ 8 ohms freq 20hz-20khz easily handles them without any stress.

I did not get time to do a full 5.1 setup yet as time was an issue but would be getting it completed by sunday evening.

For now, I have done a manual setup 2.1 and the best thing about the Marantz AVR besides the loaded features which are latest is that you can set / adjust the 9 band manual equaliser for each speaker / channel. This is something I was looking out for all these years..Agree that Denon AVR1513 has the same but it has HDMI inputs and not many analog inputs....you should always have open options to connect. The Marantz is slim having HDMI as well as Coaxle, Optical and analog inputs...so if HDMI fails...analog saves the day.

I hear 80% music and this AVR is TOPS!!! Movies too sound great and you can hear every rattle, hiss and shattering noises with deafing bass which is so clear...I can't afford a Velodyne subwoofer now...supposedly the best subwoofers in the world but maybe next year may trade up...

By the way all the above music, movies being played from Amkette HDD player are connected via ANALOG inputs and still the sound is so so clear...just imagine what HDMI would sound or look like....

Will update comments later once the 5.1 is setup is done and tested.....you can purchase the same through HIFI mart for around Rs 48k.....I got a good deal at 44k inclusive of warranty.

Cheers

@^^ 100 watts @ 80hms of sound ware xs is its power handling.nomianl output will around 30 to 40 watts.n1402 will do just fine for boston xs 5.1.

i delayed the decision for buying the speakers for my marantz 1402. I am very happy with the marantz 1402, for it's sheer simplicity, integration, functionality and ease of use. on top of that i am ok with the old sony speakers (5) i hooked it up with , without the subwoofer. then since the room is pretty big (350 sft), and i thought of getting a better floor standing speaker for a more fuller sound and improved listening experience, i liked Dali Zensor 7 and Dali Ikon 6 Mk2. but i was told my avr is underpowered. so i am being strongly recommended dali zensor 5. what is your opinion ? also can I use any equipment to increase the power output to support bigger speakers ? i just dont want to do away my with avr it seems. what sub would you suggest to go with this as well ? and any other brand of speakers i should be looking at ? my usage is 30% tv and documentaries, 30% movies, 40% music and music videos.

Dear All...sorry / apologies for the late reply...was tied up with a lot of personal stuff...well the Marantz 1402 works just well. Initially I hooked up a Pioneer Blu ray BDP 150 which reads 1TB external HDD without a fuss.... the combination is amazing...clear sound thanks to m-dax feature on the receiver besides the bass+ treble or 9 band EQ settings..you can till clean up the music further to true Audiophiler's expectations.

Movies and Music is great...I traded up from Blu Ray Pioneer BDP 150 to Pioneer LX 55...man I would have definitely purchased the OPPO but don't have the budget for this...The LX 55 is indeed a good cheaper option which has almost the same video card...yes it has indeed further improved the video quality and sound quality...this is the best cost effective option. High quality monster HDMI cables helps in better signal transfer...

At my mom's place where I used to live earlier, I purchased a NR 1601 which is a 7.1 and yes it works like a charm. Using the JBL SCS 140 BK 5.1 speakers on it. Instead of using the extra surround behind, I assigned that channel as B speakers and connected a pair of Bose 201s III. When I hear music, I use 2.1 which is the Bose 201s with the JBL subwoofer. For Movies, I put the JBLs on. You cant use A + B at the same time...

Overall the Marantz experience has been good. It is nearly a year for the 1402 and it has never failed me. Recently it was my daughter's bday and it was on since 4pm till 3am...played all kinds of music for 2 different parties.....the receiver did not overheat or even fail in providing continuous power to the speakers....

Concerts of Engelbert, Cliff Richard, The Doors, Police, UB 40 etc sound excellent on the available surround modes...Remember the key to the best system is a good combination, good wires, cables and ofcourse good original content on Discs or downloaded DTS / PLii files.

Hifimart is selling the NR1504 with Bostons 5.1 as a package...its the same like NR1402 but has more HDMI inputs and airplay...you should go for it. The receiver can ofcourse handle floorstanders and many online reviews with videos prove that B&W CM 5 series works well on NR1402. So those who have a bigger room, get this receiver and go for floor standing front speakers and good bookshelf surrounds.

All the best!
