I am in a dilemma between these 2 Panasonic plasma TV sets.
I am getting P42ST50D for Rs 80,400 at Guruji electronics Delhi and P42ST30D for 53,555.
What is the basic difference between these 2 sets.
Is it worth investing 26,000 for new series

The price is on the higher side for the 42 incher. People have bought the 50ST50 in the 90k plus a few thousands here and there. I have the 50gt50 for 112k with laser mfd, 4x3dglasses and Logitech cordless keyboard. The 2012 st series is a new neoplasma panel which is better than the older one plus it has the new bells and whistles, wifi, USB, Internet support etc.

For these bells and whistles is 26,000 not very huge amount. Doesn,t 30D series have Wifi ?
Is there any major difference in picture quality ?

ST30D is also a wonderful set and no doubt about it. Specs wise, ST50 looks better on paper, but after going through many forums, my understanding is that there is no any significant difference in the PQ. Even if we do a side-by-side comparison, even an expert might find hard to find the difference between ST30 and ST50.

The technology is definitely better in the costlier model, but if picture quality is the only concern, as said, you are going to see negligible difference. But if one of the other perks intrigues you, go for it. Because you are not going to buy another set for a few years from now, so it's wise not to have hard feelings down the lane for having skipped.

Guys, you are forgetting an important difference - the nature of 3D glasses. The 2012 model ST50 employs Universal RF 3D glasses whereas the 2011 ST30 uses the Panasonic proprietory. The ST30 has long been phased out and that is why it is cheap. The other reason for it being cheap could be that it is a display piece - one must confirm that.

That said ST30 is a good TV but ST50 is two paces ahead.

ST50 looks much sleeker and beautiful than the ST30 and the ST50 has better 3d glasses while ST30 has IR 3d glasses, which are not bad either. Other than that, there is no significant difference. The picture quality may be negligibly better. I don't think ST50 is worth 26k over ST30.

Good. But is stock available? Beware of display pieces which dealers happily push to unsuspecting customers.

I just checked with the Panasonic showrooms in Bangalore. They are not ready to gaurantee the availaibilty of 50 inch screens, they have stocks available across all other models (ST50/GT50/UT50) in 42 inch category.
