In my neighborhood shop, there is one demo unit of Pana 42V20 for Rs.47K. The salesman told me that this unit is on display for less than 3 months and will carry full one year warranty from the date of my purchase. There were no scratches etc on the front panel of the unit.

Pl suggest how to check the usage hours of this unit. There must be some settings to find out.

Should I go for it if the usage is less than 1000 hours? I am assuming 10 hours every day for 3 months.

thanks in advance

More than usage, check for any screen burn-in or dead pixel. Also, Panasonic plasmas carry 3 years warranty and not 1 year in India! Price is very good otherwise.

Demo units are used at scorching high panel exertion continuously for months. Never touch them. You are getting about 10K discount which is completely useless. You will find that the life of the panel has been more than half diminished. You will face the worst problems only after couple of years. Therefore, If you wish to keep this TV for more than couple of years, don't touch this TV. Especially plasma televsions, which is like a new born baby in the first 100 hours of usage and is very delicate. Any misuse in the first 100 hours of use can not be corrected. There is almost an inevitable possibility that you are getting a dud.

To repeat the too often phrase "NOT WORTH IT"

As it is a demo piece, all sorts of things would have been done with this unit, for example as leaving the screen on at the highest contrast on or turning up all the audio levels to the max for showroom demos etc plus remote misuse and handing it to different customers and co salesman etc

Not worth the risk for Rs 47,000, no way.

Just my two bits

My advice for all guys, it is alright if you get old stock unused in TVs, but NOT demo pieces because we do not know what kind of abuse it has seen!

They have a reset button, to reset the clock of usage back to zero. New one will cost around 60 to 65 k, which is not available right now in many shops. As rightly pointed out by vinod, it would have been abused by the show room guys with the maximum settings in respect of contrast, brightness etc. Hence it is not worth it. Still if you are for the gambit, ask for around 30k. 50% of the original selling price, they may give it for 30+.

cheers

Hi Buswal, Can you let us know where is this reset button ? .. tks

To OP : Am in consensus with the other members, the price may be lucrative but i would suggest you to opt for a different unit keeping in mind the typical usage pattern of the showrooms....
