I want to buy a HDTV and since my budget is 35000 i chose these 2 models

1) Panasonic plasma viera 42x20D(I think it will be around 35k)

2) LCD Sony bravia 32EX300 (Price:29K)

Both are 720P only .My first choice was panasonic plasma (Mainly because it is 42inches and i want to have a big tv) but the model P42x20D is not available in my area

When enquired at the nearest panasonic dealer shop they said it is outdated and will not be available in their shop . Since i got this reply from the panasonic dealer itself and i could not get this model at couple of other shops too so i decided to buy sony and will get the TV today.

I am little confused now.Should i try to get the model from some other place or go ahead with sony.

Which one will have best picture quality?

Anyone using these please give your reply.Which one is the best?

Hi, I believe the X20 is going to be replaced by the X30 (2011 model). You should probably check with the Panasonic brand shop about availability and specs. of the 2011 models. They may be available in the next few weeks, though no one has given me a firm date (I've been waiting for the launch as well).

Hold your horses..... go for the bigger plasma TV. Don't get carried away with the idea of owning a new TV and make a hasty decision. WAIT!!!
Reasons why you should wait:
When you get married you choose carefully and with patience because the person you marry is going to be your lifelong companion. Given a choice between a beautiful and ugly girl I think you will go for the beauty even if it means that you will have to wait longer. I don't think you will marry a girl because she happens to be the only available girl at the time. Similarly with TV... because you are going to spend more time with the TV than with wife. Then you should be much morre careful.... otherwise neither wife nor TV will gve you pleasure.

:signthankspin: for all your replies.

I got the info from the dealer that panasonic x30 is available and the price is 40,000.

The problem is i paid a certain amount the other day as advance for sony so i may not get the money back so now i am in a situation to opt only for sony since it's a sony Dealer. It also comes with the Airtel HD set top box

Above 40 inches sony LCD means the price crosses 50,000

Found from this site that 32BX320(a new model) plays all formats including mkv unlike EX300.Anyone has 32BX320?

Why are you going for 720p? If you cannot afford a full HD model just now, I suggest that you wait. If you go for 720p just now, you may regret later. That is my opinion at least.

I read that 720p is ok for normal Tv viewing only when it comes to playing Bluray there will be a difference between the two and the price is high for 1080p that's why decided to buy 720p.

Hi if your budget is 35k please check these models - Sony Ex400, Cx420, Ex500 and Nx500. All are very good tvs but my favorite is Ex500. I have a Ex400 and i love it. Tc.

Are you saying then that you will never watch Full HD content from Blu-rays? This is like saying that a Tata nano is good enough for me because all I need to do is drive some 10 km daily from home to office and vice versa. But you should also consider that once in a while, you may go out for a long drive, weekend gateaway, etc.

In my opinion, one should be as future proof as possible. Of course, it is your decision.

Take a bus/train/flight for that long trip. In other words there are good theatres for the really immersive experience.

Future proof in consumer electronics/computers is a misnomer. You get a state of the art device today which is an antique in few years. To me it makes more sense to stay within your budget and get something that fulfils your daily needs rather than overshooting your budget and trying to be future proof.

@venkatg, I would suggest go with what your needs are and no one would know that better than you. I've got a Panasonic X20 and from my viewing distance of 10 ft there is no difference between 1080p/720p. Even DVD rips look great at this distance. Your viewing distance & budget should determine what you need. Also 1080P on a 32" screen has to be viewed from really close to appreciate the high level of detail.

I agree with mod-the-pc. 720p is more than enough (even overkill) for normal cable TV viewing. Even when it comes to blu-ray you will be hard put to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on 42" and below screen size, unless you sit really close.

If you don't mind the grey market you can go for samsung 40D550 for around 40k(it may be even less) or the 40BX420 for 37k,both are FHD lcds with panel of VA origin.
Both tvs play many media formats(with samsung having the edge in playing high bit rate videos via usb)

There is a noticable difference between a HD ready tv and a FHD tv,so it depends on your viewing distance.

You will also have to factor in your living room lighting condition both from natural and artificial lighting.
The low end plasma have little to no measures in handling glare.

Because of this i decided to buy 32BX320 but it was out of stock so i paid for sony 32cx320 as it plays mkv and other formats.I will get the Tv today.

Thanks to everyone for your valuable suggestions :)

No issues really. I too know that it is not possible to be future proof. But as I said, as future proof as possible. But I would disagree somewhat on the next statement. I agree that there is no point in overshooting the budget unnecessarily. The limit of going over should be 5% at the max (and that is why I have not purchased the 50V20D as yet). But I would rather go for a better model right now rather than regret later.

Agree on that. Here is my view: [post=245697]42" Plasma - Recommendations pls[/post].

Anyway. The discussion is academic now as venkatg is going for Sony.
