Today I went back to the Panasonic Brand Shop at Baner Rod, Pune. I told him that Samsung 51E550 was available at 74K with 3D BDP package whereas they are quoting 50ST50D at 115K. He then dropped the price to 110K.

I told him, the deal is still not good enough. He went into usual sales pitch and said that his TV supports 1 TB HDD, better picture, etc. He also said that we are giving 2 years of extra warranty. I said that how does he claim "better PQ"? Is there any basis of comparison. I agreed on the warranty front.

After some private deliberations inside, he came and said that he can offer P50ST50D+DMP-BDT110 (3D BDP) for 113K.

My question is, is this a good deal?

If there are FM's from Pune, perhaps we can go for a group buy.

p/s. The guy said that 50UT50 has just arrived and will be put up on display. He said that at 85K, it is a much better deal. He told me he will call back once it is installed.

did he mention how many glasses he was giving for UT50 as it comes with none??

Electronics prices are bound to go down and last diwali ST30 was being sold for around 80-85K. If that trend holds true this year, then thats a steep 25K decrease in 3-4 months time. Of course ST50 has received stellar reviews.

Samsung E550 at 74K with free 3d blu ray player still seems like a better deal given that the glasses cost so little compared to 3.5k each for the panasonic. But frankly no one is selling the E550 at 74K either -atleast in bangalore

Two 3D glasses included with the 50UT50D even though the website says "None included". I am not sure whether the price really move south during Diwali. I have been watching the prices in Pune for the last 2 years. At Diwali times, dealers were offering a price drop in lieu of an exchange. The price drop was no where as 25K; more to the tune of 6-8k.

The price of ST30 dropped only after ST50 was announced and dealers wanted to get rid of the old stock. The price cut is not by the dealers but by Panasonic.

Panasonic glasses are Rs. 3,500 vs. Samsung's @ Rs. 1,300. The Samsung E550 was stuck with 74,000 tag in the showroom. The MRP is 86,000. That was before the free BDP offer.

I am no hurry to buy. I waited 2 years. I can wait for another 2-3 months. Meanwhile, if there are forum members (or their friends) in the fray, a better bargain could be arranged.

my dealer is reluctant to offer good deal reason given rupee depreciation, in fact if you notice prices of all the stuffs which is imported and legally marketed in India have shot up

For ST50, I was quoted 100k by a dealer here - MRP is 120K & so called dealer price is 114K. I would suggest you check with more dealers (multi-brand shop may be) and get it for 100K approx... UT50 MRP is 97K and 85-87K offers are quite common, the stunner was one brandshop in Noida who offered at 76K... I think 80K is surely possible..

ST50 has neo plasma 2500 panel, infinite black filter, better speakers, Wifi built-in and 3D Glasses included - if you have the budget, go for it - I am in love with it :yahoo:

Wish i had the budget for it...

@rajatk, budget is 100k but stretchable to an extent. I told the dealer that Delhi is being offered at 100k. He said Delhi has lower taxes; I said octroi only. Then he said, 110k. I bundled the bdp to sweeten the deal; then he said 113k.

I could go to other dealers also. And that is what I am going to go next. But I am not too hopeful.

Problem with plasmas is that multi-brand showrooms usually don't stock them.

Took the plunge finally.

Purchase P50ST50D for 105K at Rajesh Trading Corporation, Daruwala Pool, Pune. Further negotiations were not entertained. Since Delhi/NCR price is about 100K and there is 5.5% Octroi in Pune, I felt that the price is OK.

Panasonic is giving a free gift worth 18K of so which will be sent by Panasonic directly to home address within 30 days of purchase. Dealer said that it is a surprise gift and did not say what - but as another FM said, it is a DVD HT 5.1 system. I am not really interested in HT system and will explore possibility to sell it off and purchase BDP instead.

TV may be delivered today. I shall post pictures and reviews soon.

A Panasonic brand shop (Noida) just told me that free gift (HT) is free only with 42xt50 & not with any other model including 50xt50 !!!

That is funny. My dealer said that I will get the gift also. But in any case, I did not buy the TV because of the freebie.
