Panasonic plasma black levels no longer worsen.

This hype of "worsening black levels" was a ghost created by the impotent competition to Panasonic.

The "worsening black levels" meant that - in about three years time, the set will move from 0.007 to 0.012 maximum.

Even then, these sets will display the best in class black levels.

Actually, the black levels stabilize after 3 years and in some cases will slightly increase also.

All these numbers are barely noticeable change in the black level over three years.

However, this was touted as a "nightmare" by the stupid competition.

The hapless panasonic was forced to be defensive about it.

This is what happens - if you are already the best in class but you are having a minor defect which will be treated as a major sin compared to the "declared" rejects in the market.

Hyped? may be, but the issue most certainly is there. Panasonic's selling point is their black level and they wanted to do catch up with kuro so they just released their PDP's with lowered black levels and let it raise eventually. This issue does not happen with other manufacturers. Also the raised black levels compromises in picture details ( compare a top end Panasonic plasma with a top end plasma from another manufacturer and you will know)

Also this hype is two ways , one way is people hyping the black level raise and the other is Panasonic reps in many forums writing godly things about Panasonic plasma.

The overall brightness of the plasma starts to degrade after few years and this is applicable to all plasma brands.

Having said all i must admit Panasonic plasma is one of the best Flat Panel television available in the market today which offers amazing picture quality in spite of any issue it might have.

But Panasonic is not the best in class in terms of picture quality since kuro holds that rank ,people never found any serious faults with kuro.

Raja Praveen,

I fully agree with above facts. But, We all should come out of "Kuro" hang-over. Kuro is history. Even if this is available now, You should compare them with Panny's pro models now - both in price as well as in black levels. Hence, Let us all be fair to Panny and don't "blacken" their record....

I still love Panasonic plasma and that is why i bought one :) but i also bought a Samsung plasma later and i liked its picture processing little better.

BTW pro Panasonic plasma like you said is excellent but very expensive and i don't know why they aren't brining that technology into consumer tv's. I don't mind paying extra if i get 9G kuro stable blacks with pic processing like Samsung combined in one plasma.

I don't want to diagress from this thread. But, let me add to your statements.

Pro models are pricey because this is not economically transferrable for bulk manufacturing.

Samsung has its own share of problems in their PDP. So, Please do not jump from pan to the fire by replacing with Samsung.

And, I spend many sleepless nights as I keep watching my panasonic television due to its wonderful picture.

Video processing is not so critical for HD feed but will make a difference for SD feed. Hence, Samsung may look better for SD feed.

Yep, Samsung do have their own set of problems. I have a 50" V20 and a Samsung C6500 and i will say both have their own advantages and disadvantages so it just a personal choice really.

When i said picture processing i was talking about the HD picture processing as i do not watch much of SD in the plasma's at my home. I find the colors, details to be better on Samsung while blacks and handling of judder is slightly better in Panasonic.

Also i think video processing and scaling is very important for HD and that is one of the reasons Kuro was such a masterful television because it was able to produce amazing HD picture and scale the image properly. At the same time it did not do extensive processing like Philips which still IMO has the most powerful picture processing chips.

In plasma there are only two major players now Panasonic and Samsung so i don't think us discussing this in a Panasonic plasma related thread is greatly deviating from the threads topic.

Which Panasonic Plasma you have BTW?

^ no plasma is recommended to be used as a pc monitor.

Out of all the plasma's Panasonic plasma has the least amount of image retention.
