Hi,

My Panasonic Viera 42" plasma developed a very fine red line from top all the way to the bottom around 6 inches from the left margin. Picture is fine but not immaculate. Any ideas on repair for the problem?

Thanks

Contact the Panasonic service centre, keep records of all your dealings, names, numbers etc. A complete record. Better safe than sorry.

I am hoping that you are still in warranty.

Is it under warranty? Recently fm 'krishnendu' had the same problem of thin vertical line in his plasma. He registered a complaint two months back and last week received a 3D TV as replacement for the faulty 2D TV.

No need to worry mate...you will get a replacement if they have a equivalent 42" in stock or they might offer LCD or refund....keep following up regularly on their email helpline.....will take some time but will get resolved....

Thank you all for the concern. Unfortunately the TV is out of warranty and is around 4 years old. In that case, will the repair be worth the money or should i forget the line and keep on with it?

Thanks

You might get lucky (especially since its an older model) if they have a panel in stock. It would be best to get an approx quote & then take a call comparing it to how much you would be spending for a completely new tv.
Have never owned a plasma so not sure of costs involved though I just spent 20k on a new panel for a 40" Sony lcd (my nephew knocked it down though).

Unfortunately all earlier panels were made in japan hence I seriously doubt if they have in stock...All panel cases that i have come across have led to refund or replacement as they were under warranty including mine.. neways you can try your luck with the service centre..

I have also read on some forums that such lines are also due to the connectors which connect to the panel being loose. I am no expert but it seems that re fixing the connectors back "firmly" back to the panel where the line is sometimes resolves the problem.

BUT DO TAKE EXPERT ADVICE BEFORE ATTEMPTING IT.

Yes. That could be also one of the problems. Another issue could accumulation of dust inside. There could be issues with capacitors on the circuit board. Capacitors are often the first of the micro level components that give way to becoming bad. So do call in an expert.

If you have do good DIY skills :) you can look into fixing the connectors back yourself. But as Just4kix also says in the above post, the problems could be bad caps, dust etc. I have seen plenty of videos about bad caps, re fixing connectors etc. I am sure these could guide you better. Take a look at these videos and take a call.

Indiatimes shopping is just a portal. They take your order and pass it on to a registered seller. Seller will dispatch and then collect money from Indiatimes. In this regard, Indiatimes is like eBay. But unlike eBay, Indiatimes is not reliable. There are lots of horror stories on Mouthshut.com. A friend of mine ordered a Blackberry from them and he received the item after two months (website said "stock available"). When the item was received it was a jailbroken imported version (it had a T-Mobile logo), the package was not sealed and the manual was referring to all US settings, etc. He did save about 4K but for two months he was suffering from high BP and hypertension. Customer care was pathetic.

Well, not just 50GT50, they have all other models as well (most of the 42 inchers are also there).

Price is high.
