I recently picked up a Pioneer VSX-S520D 5.1 receiver that has an amp to drive a sub-woofer as well as a pre-out. I have a Klipsch Quientet V set of speakers for front, center and surround but need a sub-woofer to complete the setup. I prefer to drive it with the receiver itself so I am looking for a recommendation for a passive sub-woofer with a 10" driver. The specs state that the amp puts out 80W RMS into 4 ohms (much less if it is 8 ohms) so there really is not a lot of power to drive it. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is only one recommendation...avoid passive subwoofer. Go for active subwoofer as you have preout for that.

Any particular reason to prefer a passive sub over an active? If you have he option, go for an active one by all means.

I just want one less device to turn on when watching regular TV and as the receiver itself can power up a passive sub-woofer, it achieves that purpose. If not I also have a active KEF 10" sub-woofer in my main home theater that I rarely use that I could re-purpose for the time being so that is also an option.

You already have the answer. As the kef is rarely used, hook that up here and you are done.

Ah, I understand. Doesn't that sub support Auto On/Off? If you enable that, then don't have to worry about switching it on or off every time
