Hi all,

I recently bought a Philips 32 PFL4738 32" LED Television. I'm facing a problem with the video formats. Not even a single format is playing consistently. For the same file format, some videos play, and some don't.

For example, for let's say .avi format when I try different videos, some would play fine, but with others I get a message 'nsupported file format' even though the file extension is the same (.avi). All the files play fine on my laptop. Also, even when files are downloaded from the same source, lets say I downloaded season 1 of some show, Few files would play, and other's won't.

This problem is across formats like .avi, .mkv, .wmv etc

Has anyone else faced some issue like this, or is it an issue across different brands as well where not all the files would play on the TV even when file format is same.

Request your help guys.
Thanks

Hi,
This is a very common problem. Philips is not known for supporting too many video files. Samsung and Toshiba are believed to support most formats. Even Sony does not support all USB videos.
The best solution is: Go for a Bluray player with USB support and check the compatible file formats.

Regarding your question: .avi is container file which may contains video encoded in mpeg4, h264, h263 and audio encoded in aac, mp3, ac3 etc. See the TV manual regarding the codec information for Philips. You can use a Video convertor software like Total Video Convertor to convert videos to your supported format. Hope this helps...:)

It's not that it doesn't support all formats but they don't support every encoders. What you need is a media player that can play every formats or you can connect your PC / Laptop to the TV and play those movies. You won't have problems playing different formats.
