Hi folks,

I am caught between the two. Been offered the Philips LED 42" just launched models, 4000 and 5000 series for a shade below 70k and LG LD650 for 64K or so.

Problem is Philips service scares me. I have had bad experience before with Philips TV. Next the sales network is virtually nonexistent right now in Eastern India. The company is going restructuring. New company has taken over, so not sure if I should take Philips.

LCDs I have looked a large number of models and the LG LD650 stands out for me every time.

Question is what to do? To go for the LED from Philips? Or go with LG LCD?

my bro too have pathetic experience of philips service last month.3 parts were removed at different occasions ,and after 5 weeks they announced that tube is dead!
A CRT dying in 5 th year of operation is unheard right? And how come authorized service person took 5 weeks and numerous calls to find out?

In meantime my bro's wife put this on her facebook status message " I have finally lost my patience with Phillips customer care...anybody knows where to lodge a complaint against careless/irresponsible phillips customer care executives and their even worse service centers... they have vanished with my TV (parts) without trace...and are not bothered to call back and give me details...its 25 days now!!!"

I sent this as a link to one GM in Philips who is my ex collegue ..and he did not bother to react:))
In Mumbai least I found the brand in TVs is almost Dead...

So lesser means thinner support ..

So go for LG ..

Thanks for your post. Mine is also a 29" CRT, dead within 3 years!

Should I look at Samsung series 6 LCDs as well?

Dead means Tube gone? In 3 years? man people have used average TVs for 15+ years and sony's for 20+ years!!!

IT IS GREAT YOU ARE CONSIDERING PHILIPS. For my bro ( who takes my advice) Philips is strict No No ( In fact we have another repaired Philips 3 In 1 and His Philips HTIB is it seems conqued off... He will suarly break my Head!:))

Awesome LED TV, saw it in UK. Wish Philip service improved, at least here in Chennai we have an Arena which is sensible enough

Not the picture tube, some circuit board has to be replaced, which costs 8k - not worth it.

@madbullram - the Philips Arena here is not stocking any new Philips products. I have spoken to Philips India, the entire company is being restructured, esp in Eastern India. It is no longer the old Philips India now; there is some Videocon connection. I don't know the exact details though. Now with such poor sales network - I wonder how bad the support is going to be. I really don't want to burn my fingers twice (and so the post here - seeking fellow forum members advice).

Madbullram - have you seen the 4000? or 5000? series or some other LED TV in the UK?

Anyone have any idea about the Samsung 6 series, specifically 630 40"?

DO NOT EVEN THINK OF PHILIPS THEN!!!
Also support is proportional to sale.
If Sale = Ziltch
Then Support = 5% Of Ziltch = 0 :ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:

Decided to go with LD650 42 inches. I found the difference between 40" (Samsung LCD) and 42" quite a bit as far as viewing size was concerned. The 46" and 42" inches don't "feel" so much different though.

Hi John, Hope you have purchased your TV already, I won a 32LD650 and if want any specific information feel free to PM me. Tx

John,

John,

Philips is a great brand and I upgraded recently to the Philips 42 LED 8000 series (Philips - 8000 series LED LCD TV 42" Full HD 1080p - 42PFL8605/98 - 8000 series - Televisions - Sound and vision ) and I am enjoying every bit of it. The clarity, color reproduction, sound quality and Its Ambilight feature is one delightful experience to watch TV shows and movies as it mesmerizes you in a colorful envelope, and definitely a better if not equal to Sony and Samsung's. In Singapore where I am currently stationed it is one of the leading brands although their marketing strategies are poor even here but luckily service centre is pretty good.

It is sorry to note that Philips used to be one of the first few multinational companies in India who had the first mover advantage but today it is in a sorry state specially in consumer electronics in India. I wish they introduced some of the models that I see overseas in India to show the consumer how technologically advanced a Philips product is. They also recently launched a network ready blue-ray ambisound sound bar in Singapore right from the finishing to the quality of the product is excellent, wish they launch more of such products in India. (Philips - SoundBar Home theater Wireless network ready - HTS9140/98 - SoundBars - Home theater - Sound and vision)

If only service issue was not such a big problem in India I would highly recommend a Philips LCD/LED.

So do you think the company whose GM is eitther ignorant or he has accepted that the quality and quality of service is so bad , one should go for philips?

Thanks to all, I went for the LG 42" LD650. I like the pic quality and the sharpness/contrast a lot. I went for a LCD rather than a Plasma as a lot of viewing is done by the kids with the lights on.

Cost: 64.5K.

I also purchased a Samsung Microwave so that the total amount spent was 75K and got 9K worth of coupons (to be availed from Pantaloons).

@Spiderman, if I could and if the service in India was good, I would have loved to buy the Philips Cinema 21:9, 56PFL9954H/98

I concur Sandeep. It is a very good TV, esp with HD input. I bought it over plasma because my kids watch it mostly, with the lights on or in a brightly lit room.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
