I would recommend getting yourself a decent condition Garrard Player for 78s. A Garrard Changer model should do. Keep in mind that you require a ceramic cart phono stage.

Phillips hi Q is a good and decent player for lps and eps but not for old 78s. The stylus breaks away after a few playback. But over all its a nice player with built in phono preamp and amp.
Regards.

Philips Hi-Q International is a decent system but will play well wiith its original full range speakers. I had once connected it to my BPL speakers and it sounded pathetic. For playing 78s, you'd need a stylus for 78s. The microgroove stylus will get damaged. But overall, the Hi-Q setup is quite enjoyable if the listener's expectations on par, however it will be thrashed by any Garrard in decent condition (for all types of records)

Dear Srini,

I had both "Hi Q International" and "Hi Fi International" TTs and matching speakers earlier...

For an easy listening both these systems are too good with matching speakers. Hi Q is a better version.

Earlier many "Hi Q International" TTs , speakers AMPs were available in the market. One in decent condition has become scarce by now.
I know the question is regarding Hi Q series you have come across, but still...
If you have any plan of recording from the Shellac discs, better go for a old style DUAL 1019/ Garrard LAB Series model 50 / BSR kind of changers with original/compatible cartridges.

The best ones I have heard so far for a decent listening of 78 RPMs

1. Dual 1019 with Shure M78S catridge.
2. British made BSR [Birmingham Sound Reproducers ] Changer
3. Garrard LAB Series model 50

A lot of the old integrated amplifiers from Europe and Japan in the 1960s and early to mid 1970s came with inbuilt ceramic phonostages. One could switch between magnetic and ceramic for phono. The easy way is to get hold of one of these.

Alternately, if you have some basic knowledge of electronics, you can build something like this: http://www.hifivision.com/phono-turntables/48499-ceramic-phonostage-build.html

I have been building my phonostages on simple breadboards. If someone on our forum can design a PCB for it, that would make matters even easier.

If you want me to build a ceramic phonostage for you, please let me know. I have finished the builds that I had in hand, currently.
