No Where Near to where I want to be yet...
I have a Philips home theatre. It used to play VCD and DVD before. But since long after I was introduced to the 720p rips I seldom used the a CD drive, only used optical in from my media player or TV. But whenever I used it with VCD or DVD, it used to play them well.

Today I tried using its DVD dry after a long time. But strangely it is no longer recognising VCD and DVD, it is playing audio CDS very well though.

What could be the issue here?

Weak Laser maybe? Try cleaning the lens. If that doesn't work, then maybe you will have to get it checked by a technician.

Most probably the Laser eye is getting weaker as pointed out by MASH. Do you face any skipping problems while playing ACD?
