I casually rang up local arena store today enquiring abt latest world cup offer.

I was quoted Rs 48k for 42PFL5609 with 1 month Videocon D2h installation and package and 4yr waranty.

However somewhere I read this particular model will be discontinued. As the world cup offer gives 4yrs warranty I was wondering what would happen in future if parts remain unsourceable?

Also is 48k good price?
How does it go with 42LD460 pricDealer is saying no reduction in price if I won't take d2h.
How would 42LD460 for similar price but 1 yr warranty?

I do not have very keen eyes but casual audition left an impression of it (philips) to be a good tv.

Your suggestions are welcome.

Rgds.

I had Philips 32PFL5609. However, forced to change it after a vertical line with dead pixels showed up. They didn't have 5609 in stock or if rightly said it has been phased out so it was replaced by 5505.

What I can assure you that 5609 is an awesome TV. If something goes wrong it will be replace by their current 42 inch model. Same was done with me. Although I had to make more than 10 calls to them.I guess with a 4yr extended warranty you are quite safe. I am giving this opinion based on my recent experience with Philips customer care. Currently the philips after sales service is handled by P.E Electronics. I would rate them as good, even one of our forum member (Spiro, please go through his extensive review about the philips 5609 LCD TV) had the same problem, his TV was also replaced with a new one (5609 model).

BUT THE CALL IS YOURS. THERE ARE VERY VERY FEW PEOPLE IN THIS FORUM WHO CAN SAY FEW GOOD THINGS ABOUT PHILIPS CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I am currently using Philips CRT and HTIB.
My home has over 10 odd different philips products. By and large happy. My sisters entry level HTS' FM scanner and remote was serviced after 8 yrs of purchase by ASS. They are bit slow but do exist definitely.

Reason I am tempted for Philips is that the service centre is stones throw and I am in good terms there.

4 yrs warranty is actually 2 yrs product warranty and additional 2 yrs service warranty.

BTW what is the advantage of 5505 model over 5609 model?

I might take a call in next two days.
Also another tempting offer is of Videocon d2h HD for 4444/- 4 years subscription alongwith LCD.

HD package is their premiere package covering over 250 channels.

Price quoted is 48K. Pls advise on price and model.

Many thanks and best regads.

Please go through the link.

Today the colors in the TV were looking quite natural. However, I will continue to fiddle with settings till I get the best picture.

And please don't opt for D2h. I have seen the SD content in one of my friend's house. It's really crappy. Can't say anything about their their new HD boxes. Postive thing is that they are perhaps the cheapest operators.

Best regards

All the best., you need everyones good wishes when you buy philips,

I really appriciate your courage...

Its a very nice TV but a 2008 model. So 48k for it is kind of high. I picked up my 9 series 9703 for not much more than that.

5609 is a 2009 model, philips elsewhere in the world is getting to launch the 2011 models, while we in india just got to see their 2010 models just 2 to 3 months ago.

Thank you adder,

The offer is for Philips 42 PFL 5505 which Arena is claiming to be the replacement model for 5609. I came to know abt this yesterday evening.

Would you pls evaluate this particular model as I am unable to find reviews for this 5505 model. You are an expert on this I believe.

To me 5505 seems even further stripped to 5609.

BTW is 42LH50YR by LG still available? On comapreindia website it is listed for 32500/- and the concerned dealer is not picking up the phone.

Thanks for warning hemantwaghe. Yes I am warned by others on the forum abt Philips and also care a lot abt my hard earned money.
IMO Not only in India but elsewhere also Philips is criticised a lot. But it is more pertaining to their service centres than the products themselves.

As a Philips customer of CRT tv, HTIB, Iron, Shaving machine, lighting and sister a customer of Philips health care like ECG,Sonography machines etc we are a lot happy abt the products themselves.

At the risk of sounding offensive, may I know if your comments are based on your own experiences as a Philips customer or are from heresay. I am asking this because many times we tend to criticise something based on public perception.

Rgds.

Read my earlier threads ..and you realize how they failed to repair a simple CRT of my Bro.BTW in our family we had 2 ,29 Inch CRTS , 1 still at mothers place and I am worried about repairabality.
I still have vintage philips CDP and TT and Had a premium Amp ...so no issues with brand per say.

So much so that their GM (my ex collegue),when contacted over facebook did not bother to respond:mad::mad::mad:

You can read that, even Spiros expereince ,I feel they tried to cheat him ,he was smarter!!
