Hi Friends,

I am planning for a HTIB under INR150K. Can anyone of you please suggest me the best option. This HTIB will primarily will be used for:
  1. HD DTH
  2. XBOX 360
  3. Blu Ray DVD
  4. FM (mostly mornings)
  5. at times music through pen drive / MP3/Audio CD
My younger bro has Onkyo 3400 but I didnt find Onkyo (even THX) upto the mark. I am not interested in purchasing individual components. Any clues on JBL? Some of their package looks very good. And Bose? I once took the audition, I find them OK.

Friends, I will eagerly be waiting for your responses. Tech Gurus, please help me.

Thanks

Is the budget you mentioned(150k or 1.5 lacs) only for the speakers and avr? Also what are the dimensions of your room?

the 150k budget I guess is inclusive of xbox360, Airtel HD etc etc as I correct with my assumption ?

1.What is your room size ?

2, What is your budget for the HTIB ?

For that budget you could easily buy Bose, but its not worth it, personally I have been a bose fan until I tried other brands. You could easily buy a good AVR like Denon 1912 and decent floor standing speakers. However, remember source is also very important. Whatever blu ray player or audio cd player make sure you buy good one as that makes hell of a lot difference , I made a mistake of buying Sony blu ray and I am still suffering for the decision I made.

Thank you friends for quick reply :signthankspin:. Here is the response for queries:

  1. Room Dimension is approx 16' x 20'
  2. Thats the budget only for HTiB. I already own the other stuffs
Thanks.

I think the quality difference you are mentioning is only for audio CDs / music files and I think that is where the quality of in built DAC comes into picture. Again if DVD (or other non HD source) upscaling to Full HD is another factor that is required then the quality of the video processor in the player comes into picture. However if playback quality of BDs is the only factor then as long as the player has HD audio support (which most do) then the cheapest BD Player has no difference with costliest BD player.

I think to chose what BD player OP should buy he has to consider the other purposes (non BD playback) that he expects the player to perform and their relevance in his case

Did you audition the THX certified Onkyo 9300 which is 7.1? It is feature rich in around a budget of 80 to 90K and is good. If you decide to buy Bose you should check if they support HD Audio from BD Playback, as far as I knew 1 year back when I purchased they do not support HD Audio (Dloby True HD, DTS HD Master audio) so in that case you have to rely on LPCM output capability of your BD Player and ensure that Bose model you purchase accepts LPCM. Some of the Bose HTIBs that include DVD player do not even upscale and for that you are required to purchase a separate upsacler.

As sunder said, denon 1912 would be an excellent avr in your budget. For the speakers, you can try brands like Polk Audio, Paradigm, Dali and Focal. I would not personally recommend JBL as their high-end speakers are loud and give a bit of an unrefined sound. You can go for Paradigm Monitor 9 floor-standers because they give a very complete sound. I have them for around a year and they haven't disappointed me since. And the whole denon 1912 + paradigm monitor 9+ cc 190 + adp 190 + PDR 100 should cost you around 135-145k. You can go for bose but keep in mind that their speakers are extremely overpriced. The demo they give is on content specifically designed for their speakers so if at all you consider bose, take your own disc for a demo.

Bareilly! What a nice city.
BTW, what all do you have already?
I already own Tata Sky HD, BD Player, Xbox 360, Samsung Full HD TV

Aah, nice to see someone from Bareilly.. :)

M from bareilly too.. :)

Great! Which place ??

Define "upto the mark"
I am not an audioholic so cant define upto the mark. But yes, somehow I couldnt find it electrifying. I also downloaded the demo disc (torrent) and still it failed to impress me.

Hey what about warranty? Is Denon, Polk Audio, Paradigm, Dali, Focal officially available in India. How are their warranty coverages/services?

My paradigm tweeter stopped working a couple of months back. All it took was one call, their guy came to my place, took the tweeter with him and replaced it within a week. So customer service of paradigm is excellent. Even Denon has an excellent customer service although I haven't availed it till now. I don't know about Dali and Focal, but I've heard from a dealer that customer service of polk audio is not that great.

And most of these brands offer a 1 year warranty.

at your budget why are we even talking BOSE here. BOSE works great for people who love to pay for overpriced stuff and have no idea about any other HT systems. Sorry, but I am not a BOSE lover and would never recommend BOSE for audiophile sound. get a good receiver and a good 5.1 speaker system. Some of the other good names you can demo are wharfedale, mordaunt short, mission. you should be able to put together a good system in your budget.

Hi All,

Again starting my old thread and need your serious advice. I have bought Yamaha RX-A820 from US and now looking speakers for it. My drawing-cum-dining room size is 24x12, but will be installing the setup width wise. Our main interests are 50% Music and 50% TV+Movies.

Can you please suggest speakers for my AV receiver? My total budget is 100K for speakers (preferably FS), either step wise or in one go. Also please do suggest good shops with demo in Delhi.

for Yamaha Aventage range, you should be looking at FS like wharfedale diamond 10.7/ Paradigm Monitor FS/ Klipsch/KEF Q900/Polk Audio Lsim 703/Polk Audio RTi A9 etc.

Thank You all for your valuable feedback. I have bought Dali Zensor 7, Zensor 1, Zensor Vokal for my Yamaha RX-A820.
But have now stuck up at sub. Dali has discontinued Concept Series sub. but dealer has offered me Dali E12F Sub or Paradigm DSP-3100. Can you please suggest, which one should I go for?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
