Hi,
I want to make a home theatre setup in my room.
I'm confused as i don't have much knowledge, whether to go with complete home theatre system like Onkyo's one or to combine jbl speakers with Yamaha/Denon/Harmon Kardon receivers.
I'm having Samsung LED (with optical out) which i need to combine with the system.
My main preference is to play movies through USB with 5.1 sound(my screen plays through usb).
And budget is max 30k.

Thanks

For 30k you will get only HTIBs like onkyo 3500, Denon 1312xp. Separate avr and speaker system will cost more.

For the budget Onkyo Htib can be a good option. Also Yamaha has similar option.Have a Demo & decide.

HK 134 does not support audio over hdmi, 3d and hd audio. While 3d and hd audio is not of much importance, audio support through hdmi is a must.

Hello,
I was also searching various options in that range of 30k but could not finalize any for a long time.

So finally I gave up my search because I understood that with any budget constraints you can't really have setup which will fulfill (y)our thirst of decent setup. When you have budget of say 50k you will tempt for 70k - 1L stuff. So it is never ending story.

I would suggest you to buy anything within your budget with little bit of study.

Two days ago I bought Yamaha YHT-296 for 28k from Vijay sales.
Just plain HTiB, no freebies at all. Not even HDMI, Optical cable.

I paid Rs. 450 X 4 for wall mounting stands from Yamaha, plus optical cable of Rs. 750 plus 10 meter 18 gauge wire. This extras cost me Rs 3100.

Keeping 30K setup in mind :

This system sounded satisfactorily for DishTV Set Top box.
I played general mp3 on the system that was okay.
I played 700Mb rips those were also ok, not so great.
But yesterday night when I played Hans Zimmer's Gladiator audio tracks, they sounded really great. I was more than happy with the setup.
I hope original blu-rays will give real punch from this system but I don't have Blu-ray player yet.

Thus I realized,if I have better source then only I am going to enjoy this Yamaha 296 HT.

So don't think too much apart from brief study of features.
Go for Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon or any thing that comes under good home theater category. Just avoid Sony, LG, Samsung etc for HT systems.

Wish you all the best.

one question silkograph...
why u bought optical cables??.costed u 750 extra
ur reciver has many hdmi inputs...so u can simultaneously connect ur stb and dvd/blu ray player...and get the sound and picture at the tv via the recivers hdmi output....all simultaneously.
and I play the same set up...all via hdmi...star movies hd and star gold hd sound really good and reciver shows dolby digital...try it..
but if urs stb is not hd stb...then hdmi is of no use...u have to use hd stb to fully enjoy ur complete system

OK, Correct me if I am wrong.
My STB is DishTV HD Plus. I have taken optical out from TV for two reasons.

1) I do not have any AV Player, not even DVD player, so I play videos from TV's USB port to play usb rips currently.
2) Whenever I don't want to use HT for TV audio, I don't have to switch cable from receiver to TV.

That means I have connected STB's HDMI cable to TV directly and only optical cable from TV to AV receiver.

Is this correct way or there is a better option?

PS: Will it sound much better if I switch from DishTV to TataSKy or other service provider?

Your connection is correct since you use TV for usb playback also. If your TV has ARC feature then you can use a single HDMI to connect TV to AVR which will decode sounds from TV.

I have a TV with ARC feature but still unable to get TV audio through HT, this is how the connection is setup:

1. Tata Sky HD to TV- HDMI 1
2. HT to TV - HDMI 2

While playing DVDs/listening to songs via USB on HT - Can see the visuals on TV & hear sound via HT Speakers but the problem is that TV output is not coming out via HT speakers... what do you suggest?

Seems you connection is not correct.......connection should be

TataSky > HT HDMI IN > HT HDMI Out > TV

Also if you want 5.1 sound from TataSky then plug SPDiF cable need to be connected from TataSky to HT and sound source need to be change in HT.

How will this work in case HT has only 1 HDMI port like my Panasonic HT.

My Panny TV has 2 HDMI ports, Tata Sky & Panny HT have 1 each - how do I connect to enjoy 5.1 sound coming from Taka Sky HD channels through HT.

first check do ur pana ht has this feuture called audio return via hdmi ..or it dont have?? I am not very knowledgeblle about ARC...if ur tv and ht both are arc enabled pls consult someone else how to apply that I mean the connections and all...
obviously one hdmi port of tv will be connected with tatasky stb and the other hdmi port of tv will be connected with ht..but how to enable the ARC functional via remote control..I really dont know..sorry.
if it dont have arc in tv or ht......just realax...
now check is there any optical input(orange color) at ur pana home theatre box backside.......if yes then connect the optical out from ur tatasky box into pana box optical in....u will get it..thats not best..but best at this situation...
by the way how are u presently connecting them??:)
