Hi audiophiles,

I am an amateur in AV world, yet an enthusiast for quality and precision.

I have used HTIB setups till date, and currently using Logitech Z623 for my home theater requirements, which works pretty decent for my room which is 12X10 in size.

I have been thinking about trying to source a pre used AVR, and speakers/sub, to get a feel of how different things are in terms of sound quality and output, if I were to plan a roof party someday.

I have come across someone who is selling their NAD T748 AVR, which is about 5-6 years old, and they are expecting 20k for it, while I was willing to buy an AVR within 14-15k, since it will be pre used and not of latest tech, best specs. Please suggest if this particular model NAD T748 is any good ? What are pros & cons, & whether it's will be a good deal or not. Else I was considering buying and having Denon X4300H imported from US. It's costing around $400-450 from there.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Vicky,

T748 is one of the best models in NAD.....check all specs if it really meets your requirements....depending on which city/location you are in India, look at the For Sale by owner section or hifiads or OLX, there are some good deals available for pre owned stuff....sold by individuals.....always audition and check before any purchase...

All the best

I am not certain what my requirements are supposed to be. I believe it will take me a while before I attain that level of clarity about what I need. For now it's a powerful source AVR which provides try surround, and should be powerful enough to power 7.2 or 5.2 setup, when required. High RMS output (700+ RMS), without compromising on sound quality is desired. I don't know how an AVR may benefit otherwise. I am willing to pair it with Klipsch or any other 100 watts+ rms speakers and a good sub, like velodyne maybe.

Either way is it worth at all for 20k ? Because prior to this I was looking at AVR from Denon, Marantz & Pioneer, they have a bigger frame and felt somewhat better. Though I really don't know actual difference, if any !

Thanks for your response though.

Hi

For starters the T748 is good and if all in order, for 20k seems like a decent deal....

Use it for sometime then sell it and go for a different AVR (higher models) of marantz (SR series) or Denon (all models above the x3000 segment) or Pioneer (above 800 series)

This will help you attain better understanding...you can also go window shopping and demo available different brand systems around you....

If you are purely into music most of the time (90% and above) then you are much better off with a stereo integrated amplifier and a pair of speakers...

If you will watch movies occasionally and music also..then better to go for an AVR which can balance both responsibilities well...T748 has some good reviews globally and i am sure it will not fail....

Audition for yourself before any purchase as you are the ultimate final user

My usage will primarily involve movie watching and music both, in a balanced manner. Also for now, my idea was to have something which is best of both worlds. The source should support TV/Movies as well as music, hence was thinking about getting an AVR.
If marantz SR series is better than this NAD748 then I have seen a few 5005-6006 being sold for similar price 17-20k.
Yet I am keen on getting a proper AVR like Denon X4300H, which has nice features and is current tech product, hence supports all sources, supports airplay/4k videos, has 9.2 channels, with powerful output of 145 watts per channel. It may cost 5000 rupees more in pre used market, but probably worth more due to extra features & latest tech is offers.

What do you think regarding this thought of mine? Is there a store in Delhi-NCR where I may go window shopping and do auditioning of such AVR/amplifiers/speakers ?

Thanks for your response!

Hi

SR series from 5008/6008 onwards is good.....for now would suggest to stick with T748....you will enjoy it.....its built like a tank....perfect....does not have atmos or wifi or bluetooth....(Acc to me these extra features are all marketing gimmicks to sell new models).

If you feel the need to get a pre used denon for 5k more as you want all those features...you can audition and decide to go ahead...read online review of audioholics and cnet....these are most referred and trusted opinions which i refer to....look at some Youtube videos to get a consumer specific view and comments about the AVR and then make an informed decision.

I am getting a very good deal for a Denon X4300H in US. Almost planned to get it ASAP before the price soars again.
What will be the best way to get it shipped/delivered in India/Delhi address without much hassles and attracting custom duty? I am an amateur to off-shore purchases and ways to bring it in a smart way. Ones who know please suggest/recommend. Shipment will weight approx 37 Lbs/17-18 kgs. Planning to get it shipped from Chicago, IL or Boston, MA to Delhi, India.

Hi

If you are looking to get something from US....some members have used this service and it has worked out.....

Buy in the USA, ship to India with Borderlinx

Possibly using the 'Borderlinx' word in key word search, you can perhaps find some threads and then reach out to those members to gather their experience...

I have registered for this but never used till date....

I haven't done this earlier myself. I have my colleagues in US, I don't know whether it makes sense to have it delivered to their address and ask them to ship it after unboxing. Someone told me that they may declare value of shipment as $250-300 instead of actual $700-800 to avoid crazy custom charges in India. Also it's 37-38 Lbs with dimensions as 17.50X15X7 inches, hence it may cost around $150, as I checked on Borderlinx. It's too much IMO and I would prefer some cheaper alternative.
I was thinking of shipping some nice heos supporting Speakers-Sub combo from US, which will weigh an easy 100 lbs. Will incurr some crazy shipping charge if I do that. For now it's just Denon X4300H, hence gotta figure that first.
