Hello all,

Looks like the time has come to take apart my long-suffering Dual HS-39.

A bit of background: Picked this one up after a seeing a post on this forum, and managed to blow a transformer the first time she was hooked up. I had an experienced turntable electrician check her, but his recommendation was a trip to Germany for a replacement!

Now, many moons later, since the amplifier seems rather underpowered for what I have in mind, I've decided to pull out the Dual 1214 turntable and set her in a new plinth and finally get her running. Cart and tonearm upgrades will follow in time.

I've trawled this forum for templates, but came up with nothing for a Dual. Can anyone help? Photographs, design drawings, anything?

I know the 1214 isn't really "audiophile" material, but she's worth something to me and I'd really love to see her spinning soon.

Thanks,
Rahul

Thanks for the pointer Sir. Would you have an opinion on this particular model?

I own an assortment of 500-odd (and constantly growing) LPs and 45s, a mix of classic rock, blues, pop, western & Indian classical music collected over the years by my father and myself. My listening is mostly the rock and pop records (Deep Purple, Tull, Rainbow, Beatles, Rolling Stones, CSNY, etc). Would you have a recommendation on any particular setup with the 1214?

I'm really sorry if the questions are bothersome, but I'm just trying to assess the suitability of this particular TT to my preferences.

Regards,
Rahul

Dual 1214 is a decent turntable. Nothing to feel low about. Get a Ortofon OM-20 cartridge for Dual ULM (Ultra Low Mass) tonearm and it will perform very well. Get the idler pulley checked for wear and tear. There are enough and more spares available for DUALs.

Cheers.
