Hi friends,
I have recently purchased Denon AVR 1713 with Wharfedale DX1 5.1 HT.
Problem I am facing is while connecting my laptop to AVR.

I have three Laptop in my family.I am connecting Laptop thru HDMI cable to AVR.
1-Sony Vaio T series 1311 works perfectly playing 5.1 HD movies flawlessly.

2-Macbook Pro 13" mid-2010 purchase. While connecting display shows only welcome screen of Macbook and not the wallpaper or any menu nor movie. And can't even change to 1080i resolution which it shows on TV..While Macbook is capable of transmitting signal with sound thru HDMI. If I connect it directly to TV (LG 32" LCD) I can play movie. But not thru AVR..:-(..

3-One more HP laptop purchased five years back having HDMI connection. When I connect it thru HDMI to AVR it recognizes second display as Denon and ask for mirroring. But even after selecting it can't get any thing on TV.TV shows no signal..

So, friends plz help me to make both my laptop to work with AVR..

One more problem is with my Hathway HD box..I have connected its HDMI to AVR and an optical cable from SPDIF of HD box to AVR's optical in.
It works nicely with Dolby DTS on selected HD channels while selecting Dolby in audio setting of HD box..But when I select Dolby in HD box my LG TV sound goes OFF..This doesn't happen if I select "PCM" in audio setting of HD box.But then I lose Dolby sound..:-(..So, every time I wish to switch off my AVR I have to toggle in audio setting of HD box..That quite cumbersome..
Plz help..

Turn off everything-- I mean everything!!! and use the exact same setup as with your Sony Vaio (meaning replace the Macbook Pro for the Sony Vaio)

Turn on the TV, then the receiver and then the laptop-- In this order

-- If it works-- then the problem is with the cabling-- if it doesnt work then the problem is a HDMI handshake issue between the Macbook Pro and receiver and TV

For problem 3-- you did not say whether it works with just the TV or not-- try it out

HD set top box directly connected to TV thru HDMI..so if I switch off Denon AVR signal goes directly to TV.. & there is no audio when audio option in HD box is set to Dolby..so is it likely that my TV LG 32" LCD doesn't support Dolby sound ?? If so what could be the solution..

Plz try to connect HDMI from hd STB to AVR( In AVR select the signal as HDMI for audio) and also set the audio signal as HDMI from STB. Mute the sound from TV.

I am not sure it will work, but its worth to give a try..

P.S. : Sound from TV goes off only on HD channels while sound from SD channels is OK..

Hi friends,
Regarding my above problem I found a solution. So,I am sharing it here so that other members also get some guideline.

First of I made a silly mistake that I didn't clicked to check mark mirror display option..:-)..So after selecting "Mirror display" I got full 1080p picture quality on my LCD.Then problem was to get 5.1 sound on my HT system..So after searching some articles and sites I found a guide here..
HOWTO: Play Surround Sound with your Mac and A/V Receiver Properly - MacRumors Forums

So I selected Midi setup under Applications>utility and then selected HDMI option and then I set it to 5.1 surround and tested all the speaker under "speaker Configuration"..(This testing worked when I selected "Multi channel In" option on my Denon AVR)..

then it started playing 5.1 surround sound from my Macbook Pro..
I hope this guide can be helpful to any other member in future also..
P.S. No need to do the terminal window setting..
I think I m getting 5.1 surround but not Dolby coz I can't see Dolby as display on my AVR, it shows as"Multichannel In"and even in VLC no option to change audio to 5.1..I will hv to find a way to get Dolby DTS too..

now I am still looking for the solution to get Dolby sound on my LG
LCD TV from my Hathway HD box..
I tired connecting HDMI from HD box directly to my TV but couldn't get sound on HD channels which has dolby sound- (Audio option in HD box set to Dolby)..
Then I connected HDMI from HD box to AVR and HDMi out of AVR to LCD..But here also no sound on TV on HD channels..One another problem here-If I switch off AVR the signal from HD box also went off on TV.So,I have to keep AVR always on..:-( So, I thought my previous set up i.e. HDMI from set box to TV and an optical cable from HD box to AVR was good..but still no sound on TV on HD channels if I switch off AVR..:-( Plz help..

Did you changed the audio input in the receiver for the hathways HD to optical?
