After a long time posting here as I was enjoying my HT for last two years without issues. But now I am back(call me selfish ;) )... Since last morning my subwoofer started behaving strangely. The sub or its amp goes to protection mode as soon as a thump/beat plays. This does not happen if the sub volume set to 50 or less, in that case you cannot feel the bass at all. Tried resetting the audessy (Denon AVR1713) setup just to be sure, changed rca that used for LFE but it is still there. I have to take it to service center, but want to know what could cause this issue.
And secondly this is the 2nd time the subwoofer is not working, before this it went kaput because the amp was dead, got it changed with nominal fee, but now there is no warranty left. So thinking to change the subwoofer depending on the cost of repair. Any suggestion within 20-22K max?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dipayan, I was in the same boat as you a month back. After two years of happy listening, my PSW 125 started giving me problems with sometimes no output until the volume was raised to 3/4 of the knob. It would usually become alright (not sure how though) after few days of use but finally the amplifier completely gave up last month. The repair cost quoted was ~8.5k INR and I decided to look for an upgrade. I managed to get a good deal on Polk DSW 550 PRO with older subwoofer in exchange in faulty condition. I must say it is a much better sub (not the best but it fit very well in my budget) and it has improved my music listening /movie watching to a whole new level. Do check it out and see if you can strike a deal with the dealer too. I eventually paid just a little over your max budget. Disclaimer - I am a casual home theater enthusiast [emoji4].

Will try to negotiate then, but first let me check what they have to say about the issue.

Just to know, how would be the compatibility of Sonodyne roar subs with rest polk audio speakers and denon 1713?

Thanks,
Dipayan

Just an update, the issue was due to a faulty amplifier board in sub-woofer, and as it was previously replaced by ProFx only, they again replaced with a new one and paid less than 50% of the board's price, with service charge it came rs. 2000 :clapping: . All good now, it could be psychological (or may be improved parts), but feels like now the bass is more even in 50% volume in sub-woofer for same s/w audio output in Amp.

Profx Bangalore is going from strength to strength in terms of customer satisfaction. It is a joy to visit their Barton center showroom and just talk to the folks there. Absolutely down to earth and honest people - they'll show you whatever they have without any attitude. I have seen great service from one Mr Jayasheelan

I have a Polk PSW 110 that I bought here in ProFX Chennai in 2013 March. Been serving me well with a Denon AVR 2113 that I purchased around the same time. Now suddenly it doesn't seem to power on. I do not have a spare power cord for the sub, so I couldn't troubleshoot much. All I did was try connecting it to different power outlets, and changing the switch from ON to Standby and Off. No difference. The green power light at the back of the sub does not turn on.

Could this be an issue with the amp inside the sub? I do not find any service centre numbers on the ProFX website. Is there a separate 1800 number or something?

Now that it is out of warranty, should I take it to ProFX or a 3rd party electronics branded service centre (where I have got my Pioneer, Sony and Denon amps fixed before)?

Never seen this kind of a problem. First check should be for a blown fuse. I had a PSW 125 which was also out of warranty and started giving no real output after a couple of years. I was quoted Rs 8000 for repair/replacement of the amplifier board by ProFX in Pune. Instead I decided to take their offer of getting a new DSW550 Pro with an exchange discount of half the price of the older subwoofer (which was again 8K). Just some additional thoughts for you to ponder.

Thanks NSW. How do I check for a blown fuse? Is it user replaceable? I am not very knowledgable when it comes to the internals of these electronics. Also, I don't really have the cash to get a new subwoofer now, unless ProFX offers me a great deal on exchange with the current PSW 110.

However I like this subwoofer a lot and would pretty much like to get it fixed and running, if possible, for a low cost like 1.5 or 2k.

Is there any separate service center or call center number for ProFX nationwide?

I haven't replaced a blown fuse myself but I believe you will need to unscrew the back plate to access it. If you are not confident then get it checked from a technician. I loved my PSW125 too and it served me well. So, try getting the subwoofer repaired first but if the damage is more then you can consider other options. I had got the servicing option from ProFX dealer only and had given them the subwoofer which I believe was transported by them to a service center elsewhere at a cost of Rs 500 (in the exchange offer they waived that off as well).
