Dear Experts,

Here is my setup - KEF Q900 for Left/Right. Centre is KEF Q100c. I have my Left/Right speakers connected to my 200wpc Power Amp. The Centre Channel is only connected to my AVR.

Now, as long as I listen music in stereo mode, I am fine, and everything is good, but, when I see movies in the Cinema mode, the dialogue as you know comes in centre channel.

Since, the Left/Right are connected to Power Amp, the throw and volume is more occupying while the dialogues are more immersed (less) compared to the Left/Right. So, I increase the volume to listen to the dialogues, but suddenly, for the action sequence, the music comes heavy in the Left/Right speakers and I have to reduce the Volume.

I'm thinking of upgrading the centre channel to KEF Q600c, which has an Amp Req. of Max 150w. Can I still connect my 200 wpc Power Amp to this centre channel ?

Or what is the alternative idea.....

It's very simple ... start the auto test tone mode in your AVR and reduce the decibel (volume) level of front L+R to match the center speaker's level. I am sure you would be able to solve this issue.

Hi,

I tried the same before and when you use the pre-out from the AVR to a power amp, I was not able to control the front L-R decibel level from the AVR. However, you can increase the center channel volume from the AVR and then use a SPL meter to match the volume levels at front L-R driven by the external power amp and the center channel driven by the AVR.

I tried this on my Denon 2310 AVR.

Thanks,
John.

Looks like it's solved ... I'll try your ideas.

So, I don't have to upgrade my centre speaker to connect to my Power Amp . ? I'll just adjust the decibel setting for the centre channel...?

You should be able to adjust the channel level with each speaker..Not sure why you were not able to make the adjustment....

I had connected my Marantz receiver L & R outputs to power amplifier & center channel directly to AVR.... I was able to adjust each speaker level....

No No No.....I didn't say, I couldn't adjust. I actually didn't even think of that option :)

Today, I was watching the movie " Olympus has fallen..." and I adjusted (increased) the centre decibel and felt better... :)

So, this is the normal practice ?

Will it make a BIIIGGG difference, if I had a powerful centre and connected to Power Amp. ? :)

Kind Regards,
Sriee

you meant another power amp..right.
so u have a centre pre out too from avr??
of couse it will...now big and small diff..that is personal also..

Dear friends,

My Power Amp is a 5 Channel 200 wpc Sherbourn Power Amp. As of now, I have connected only the L/R Fronts - KEF Q900.

So, I dont have to go for a another Power Amp. My AVR is a Denon 3313, which has Pre-Outs - 7.2 Channel.

Denon ofcourse has Multi Eq Settings, but, I understand, it is to change the audio effects, not the volume.

For Volume, Denon has the Tone/Dialogue Volume. I have adjustd it now and it feels lot better. :)

Thanks. :):)
