Hi everyone, this is my first post on the forum though I've been lurking around for a couple of months now. I've also been able to resolve many questions I had thanks to some of the posts already on the forum, but still have an unresolved one.

First my setup details. Was planning to pick up a HTS sometime early next year but thanks to a couple of good deals have already acquired my speakers and receiver to add to my existing system. Got a good deal on the Mission 5.1 (MV8 Floorstanders, Sub, Centre and surrounds for 24K) off eBay during Diwali (which a few other forum members also seem to have picked up) and also got a good deal on the Onkyo 608 in the US (for $399 including shipping) which I've brought back to India. Thanks to the forum posts I have also picked up a Maxine 1.5 KVA step down transformer to handle the 110v AVR voltage. Besides this I have a 46" Sony Bravia W series and a PS3 Slim, Western Digital WDTV Live with a 2TB HDD, Philips HDMI DVD player and Tata Sky.

Right now the Onkyo amp and the Mission speakers are hooked up in another room (and working great) while my new AV cabinet is being made. My main setup has my TV, Tata Sky, PS3, WDTV and HDD connected to a 1.5 kva UPS. I only have a single power outlet here and I'm a bit unsure how to connect it once I move the speakers and amp to my main setup. I would like to retain the UPS since I've already lost one PS3. Connecting the Maxine / AVR to this is out of the question since the UPS will not handle the load.

I plan to use one Belkin power strip to connect to the main power outlet, and connect the Maxine transformer / AVR to this, and also the Sub. So these will be spike protected, but not via the UPS. I will then connect the UPS to this same strip, and connect a second Belkin power strip the the UPS, where I will connect the rest (as it is currently).

Will this work fine or is it an overload on that single power outlet? The reason I ask is that I have a 1.5kva UPS in my home studio (I also produce / remix music in my spare time) connected to my computer components / active studio monitors / dual monitors, and turning this UPS on cold trips the mains. I then have to keep the UPS on and reset the trip, after which everything works fine.

Any advice is welcome!

Welcome Skiddyrow.

The point of worry is not the single outlet as much as other issues. What is the internal wiring gauge used? What is the capacity of the trip? You can always replace the trip with one of higher capacity, but ONLY when you are sure that the electrical cables used in your house are of good quality and can carry high load. Otherwise they might just burn out and would be a headache to change/replace.

If aesthetics is not too much of an issue, I would suggest that you draw power from another outlet also - one that is connected to a different phase/line.

Cheers

Thanks Venkat, since I really don't know the answer to the electrical questions, I think I need to get an electrician involved. Unfortunately there's no other power outlet nearby. Will get someone to take a closer look.
