Hi
I do a bit Karaoke singing and recording at home. I got a Shure SM-58 dynamic microphone, but when I connect it to my computer's mic-in socket (No sound card; just the Realtek mic-in on the motherboard) and use Audacity software for recording, the level seems to be very low. I was told that I should use a mic preamplifier or mixer with this type of microphones and then connect it to the Line-in of the Computer. Can any one please suggest an inexpensive device which is easily available at my place to serve this purpose? I am aware of the XLR to USB signal adapters from Shure and Icicle. But they are too costly for me. Please help..

For a longer run, you can go in for a USB sound card from line 6, the entry level UX 1, would be the best bet for you, it used to cost around Rs 5,000 USB Audio Interface | POD Studio UX1 | Line 6

With this you get a free version of the recording interface Ableton live too..You can even plug in a guitar and play, it has a software called tone port that performs as good as the entry level pod processors do!!

Sent you a PM.

Edit: Or not. How does one send a PM these days? It doesn't appear in the drop down menu.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
