Right now I am at Kobe, Japan. As both Yamaha and denon are Japanese is it worthwhile to buy at Japan.

As you are already in Japan, My suggestion would be to find which one is more popular in Japan and also let us know. I own a yamaha 299 and am happy to use it as my budget was fix and bought the best I could buy. Onkyo is also from Japan you can also check it out.

Since you are in Japan...check the AVR you are purchasing if it is indeed made in Japan as the manufacturing country nowadays is China.....

Consider the cost of AVR + Customs + Luggage weight vs cost of the same AVR here in India with Warranty....be cautious...
