After debating a bit about buying the ReadyNAS NV+, I picked up a newer Version 2(V2), the 4Bay version with GbE and USB 3, and trust that I wont need to upgrade for a few years( i have a ReadyNAS Duo with a 2TB which I will upgrade from, I've baan a very happy user of ReadyNAS units so far) hopefully once the prices of HDD starts to drop to affordable levels I can buy some 3TB drives and gradually build up storage capacity to the max of 9TB with RAID.Right now I am starting with a single drive, whether a 3 or 2TB, tbd.

This is to store both audio and video as well as to back up personal stuff. One I set it up and wire it I will try and post my impressions.

This is not locally bought, got it from the US-as people here who get stuff from there know, there is a huge range of options to buy from there, and a search will generate options and prices-which keep changing as newer versions are launched.

Prices range, check on the web places like Newegg, Amazon, TigarDirect etc you will get a better idea. Today's price may not be tomorrow's. sometimes deals are available, sometimes combo deals are available, sometimes a newer version is coming out so they discount and clear older stock.

what is the actual read / write file transfer speed you are getting with this NAS? What HDD are you using inside?

Do let us know the read write speeds over LAN. I've the NV+ version and I am interested in knowing the improvements in terms of speed.

Will do. I have a problem with it though since I have planned to install it in my HT room and my desktop sits on another floor. The ethernet cabling that was used when the wiring was done was not of the best quality, so I have my doubts about LAN speed despite having GbE router and switches. I picked up a 3TB USB 3 external HDD to beef up data transfer speed

I am not sure about your version but the NV+ that I have has a very loud fan and not meant to installed in the listening room / HT room.

I have powered it up and with 2 ReadyNAS units side by side and running, right next to where I sit. I dont feel the fan noise is at all excessive. I dont have a spare HDD to insert into it to fire it up, so I am cleaning up a 2TB HDD and will then install it, hopefully this week. Lots of stuff to copy and archive elsewhere before that.

Interestingly I find that streaming HD content over GbE is working quite well, even from a computer located 2 floors away-something that I was not confident about. BR may be a different story though.

Plan is to use a 2TB internal initially, and connect a 3TB external into one of the USB 3 jacks. I can also use an additional 2TB internal HDD through a USB docking station if needed, connected to a USB 2.0 jack. My Popcorn Hour has a 2TB installed internally, giving me upto 9 TB of capacity on my rack. I plan to upgrade to bigger 3 TBs once prices start to drop.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
