Hi guys,

First post in this forum (Apart from an intro). :)

I am planning to buy a couple of TVs by the end of this month. It would be great if you guys could help me
a) identify the models
b) suggest an appropriate place and price to buy them. I live in Bangalore.

The requirements for the 1st TV:
Budget: 30K max
Specs/Features needed: 32 inch Full HD LED, USB/HDMI port
Usage: Cable TV, movies (from USB)
Brands Preferred: Any

The requirements for the 2nd TV:
Budget: 70K (can stretch a little bit)
Specs/Features needed: 42 inch Full HD Plasma/LED, USB/HDMI port, suitable for gaming/watching sports
Usage: Gaming (PS3), Movies (USB and BD player) and cable TV
Brands Preferred: Panasonic, Sony

I dont care much for 3D, smart features, etc. Those are not essential. Am essentially looking for TVs with good picture quality, as good as my budget permits. :)

Thanks,
Sujoy

Hi
1.For 32 inch full hd within 30k you can look for 32pfl 6357 Philips led tv.PQ is good.Has 3 HDMI and one Usb port.240 hz motion features. But look for after sales service in your location. You can buy it for 28k max.

sekarkrish,

Thanks. I am a little skeptical of buying Philips though; don't see then around much... Am not sure how the after sales would be... Having said that, it's not as if i know the after sales service of other companies, but its a perception.

Btw, I went to a couple of showrooms today and liked a couple of models - Panasonic 32EM5 and Samsung 32EH5000. Both were priced at 32K, but I think i can get them down to 30. Picture quality seemed quite good. Any ideas on these 2? or is Philips better?

Samsung 5 series is better but you can demo both tv with your videos and also look for tv with atleast 2 Hdmi ports.Philips is good only with better ASS.Checkout user reviews of these models in flipkart for better understanding

70 k budget is enough to get a 42 inch full hd 3d tv. Do some research before final buying you will get better options.

I did some research for the 42incher.

Seems like only 2 models fit my budget and requirements: Pana 42UT50 and Sony 40EX650. I am getting similar quotes for both: around 60-64K. The next higher models for these lineups, aka 42ST50 and 40HX750 are being quoted in excess of 80K... Would have liked to consider these, but the prices quoted are way beyond my budget.

Will be going around Bangalore some more to see if there are any good deals. Anyone has any idea on the latest prices of these models, and where to buy from?

For the 32 incher, I will most likely get the Samsung 5 series... One of my friends just bought it for 30K... Looks great...

one suggestion.

while going for 2 screens.

get one under 30k for daily soaps.

as the second screen has to be special.....

get second screen a projector instead of a tv....for movies/gaming.
no tv can match up a projector experience...like a 100 inch screen matters..

its the real jump....from 32 to 42 or 50 is not a great change...
i can say it from my own exp.
although my pj is just diy..still i never see any movie in my tv.

pjs do have the "the wow factor"(quote borrowed from Mr kix..hehe)

there are many good projectors at your range

like latest launched
epson 515 3d 720p 3000 lumen projector at around 50k...2 year indian warranty
just an example...
or epson 6100 1080p at 95k.......
optoma hd 20 etc etc....

although pjs need some little maint like room lighting, space restriction, hot restart problem, lamp life...etc etc..they are so tiny imo as a price to watch real big screen

for your first recommendation i would like to suggest you to go with lg 32 inch ls 3400 and yes there is a usb connectivity port available with this model and you can watch high definition movies with this model and on your next recommendation you can blindly go with sony LED KDL 40EX650 but i am not sure whether it is available in 42 inch or not and this sony model will cost you around 62 to 63 k including tax.

Desert Fox, Your essential list doesn't seem to include sound quality. May be you are planning to use external speakers with the TV. If that's the case, then it's fine. But if you are not using the ext. speakers (and of course, the amplifier to power them) for your TVs, then you must look for TVs with relatively better sound quality.

Based on my personal experience, I can say the LCD/LED TVs we get now have really pathetic sound. The CRT TVs used to be way better than these slim TVs. So, my suggestion is choose a TV with best audio among the worst. Most of these LCD TVs have down-firing Speakers which makes the sound quality even more pathetic, look for TVs which are facing the viewers (I think Philips, Toshiba are some of them).

Dhanan/Prosenjit,

Anything greater than 42 inches will be a bit too big for my room. So am sticking with this size. But thanks for the info.

Anirban,

LG LS3400 is not a full HD model. I absolutely need a full HD TV. I will be checking out Sony and Pana models for my larger tv. Thanks for the reco.

Ravi,

I am not going to use external speakers, as of now. If the sound quality of my TVs turn out to be shitty, then I will get one in the future. :)
Anyway, am not really an audiophile, so I think I should be okay. Hopefully.

Guys,

What is the best known price for Panasonic 42UT50 and Sony 40EX650? Would negotiate with the dealers based on the info.

The least I am getting is 64K for 42UT50 and 56K for 40EX650. I will be purchasing the tv sometime next week, so any help is welcome.

Thanks
