Guys,

I have been trolling through the forums over the past hour. I am based in NCR and need to get a Region Free/A Blu Ray player.

I got the James Bond collection for a $130 incl. shipping from Amazon.com and it is region locked. I figured I could get a cheap region free player and still save some money.

Now, I am not able to find one here. Any recent links/contacts?

I know there are some walmart players that allow for it to be unlocked. But I can't seem to find one online. Any other options in India?

Pansonic BDPs can be unlocked by buying an enhanced firmware. Toshiba BDX3200 can be unlocked using a free firmware. There is one Onida model which is also region free for BDs.

I would prefer to buy from someone locally (number?) I need a website or link where I can buy/ship one to India. If it is significantly cheaper, then I am ok with a a Region A player as well.

If u already have a Indian bluray player then buying a region A player would be cheaper... If u don't have a bluray player right now & this would be ur 1st one then buy a region free one... Tell us ur current situation so we can give u better options... Plus a budget...

Based on your situation, I would recommend the following options:

Option 1: (easiest but costliest) Order a region free player from websites such as 220electronics.com, worldelectronics.com, etc. These website do ship to India. But the base price of the BDP is itself costly and they charge $95-100 for shipping. On the total landed price, you will end up paying 28% customs duty.

Option 2: Open an account with Aramex Shop and Ship. The registration cost is $45 but there is a coupon that waves of $35. There is a thread here that mentions the coupon code. Use the Aramex SnS service to import a region A player. Best model would be to buy a Panasonic BDP as it can be made region free later via firmware update (requires donation to the website that provides the firmware).

Option 3: If you have a relative, friend, etc. coming from USA, ask him/them to bring a BDP for you. Again Panasonic is the best option. Same in case of a friend/family returning from UK/Europe. In this case ask them to bring Panasonic Region B or Toshiba BDX3200GB only and make it region free.

Option 4: Buy a Panasonic BDP here in India (Region C) and make it region free.

BDT220 not available in India right now.. only option is to import..

BD-77 is available and is the next best thing if you are fine with no 3D capability..

Apologies for the delay in responding. I was tied up in trying to get a bunch of electronics fixed.

I have a Region C player (PS3).

I want a Region A player. Not sure, if I want to go through the donation route to unlock it. If I have to pay (Euro 35-40), I would much rather buy yet another Region B player for UK/Europe Blu-Rays (the cost savings on sets justifies it).

Any other player which allows for unlocking?

More importantly, any shop where I can go and pick it up?

If you have a Region C player already and buy a Region A player and later on a Region B player then technically you have a complete system. I have often recommended this approach. The disadvantage is that you have a clutter of equipment and you will also run out of HDMI ports in the AVR or TV.

I have already spelled out the various options in post 5.
