Hi, I am currently using Airtel DTH with regular STB and looking to upgrade to HD STB on my own, not through Airtel as they are asking Rs2250 for upgrading to HD.

I have 2 options,
1. Getting a used Airtel HD STB from a friend as he's shifting .
2. Getting a new Airtel HD STB from another friend who got it as a gift with newly purchased LED tv, but wishes to stick with his TATA Sky connection.

My question is, is it possible if i fetch the HD STB from any of the 2 sources mentioned above & replace it with my current normal STB?

Will this work? Plz advice..

Unless you subscribe to the HD pack you wont get HD channels. And your old STB smart card may or may not work on HD box. However take the box from your friend and inform airtel you already have the hardware and would like to subscribe to the package.

Yes i understand i won't get HD channels until i subscribe to them. Actually i am more interested in getting a little improvement in PQ of SD channels as its just Nat Geo currently available in HD.

Can anyone confirm if just by inserting my existing smart card into the new HD box will make it work?

Can anyone who has upgraded to HD through Airtel confirm what actually got changed in the set-up?

Thanks

hd dth comes with its own card, whn u change the stb u need to activate ur acc on new card, how i hv no idea, plz speak to cust care 12150

and 4 hd chanel u need to get plan having hd chanel otherwise u wil get all chanels as it was coming on old stb

i dont think that your old card will work..

as when they install the hd stb the new card is already in the box and as soon as they turn it on the first time it loads the new software and the registers the serial and pin of that smart card on the network. so ideally it will not work..

but why is that you need to use your card ..in HD

you can use the same card that is their in your friends hd box as he is giving you the complete setup .. then why wud he want to keep the smart card..??

There is also a possible case where i may get a new and unused STB. Infact, that's the only option now as most probably i wont be able to get the old STB.

I think if my existing set-up and smart card can work with the new STB, i can just insert the smart card in the new box n then switch it on, that way no activation should be required.
I am trying to do this so that i can save Rs750 (activation charges) that Airtel is asking for if i try to use my friend's Airtel HD Activation kit which he got while purchasing a LED tv.
