Replacing ipod nano batteries

My 1st Gen ipod nano batteries barely last 4 hours... A shop in Ritchie street (Chennai) offered to replace the batteries @ Rs.500
Is it worth it to replace batteries?

Apple support say they will only replace the unit (new/refurbished) @ cost of Rs.3500
