I was looking for some speaker stands and came across this wooden chest made of Sheesam Wood and weighs 25 Kg. Do you think this can be a good for stand for speaker.

It is good that it is heavy. And it looks great!

I don't have anything to back this up, but I think putting your speaker on a hollow object is likely to cause bass suck-out and affect bass definition.

there's a good chance it might effect the sound. depends on the speaker. many times, the speaker driver's (and port) height from bottom affects sound quality. With this kind of a stand, the speaker baffle (front) behaves like a long front panel (with a flat surface sticking out, the top of the chest that you have). This is the reason most of the speaker stands have a rod like thing in the center. I suggest you try it and see if it affects the sq or not. also try some rubber mat inbetween to isolate the two.

That is an excellent practical design for a speaker stand. Rosewood has high sonic absorbing qualities and will not interfere with sound quality in it's round design. In fact many speakers are built from rosewood itself. By placing books inside the shelfs you will further add more absorbing.

May I ask where and for how much you are getting these from?

It is not completely hollow it has 2 drawers and i will keep some things inside. :confused: May be this can help in getting the bass substance.

They seem to have a lot interesting furniture, the quality of workmanship seems average, I suppose that's why it's so cheap.

Couple of interesting designs i found that could be used as speaker stands

Yeah ... looks extremely inviting ... in case, it is indeed Sheesham .... then, a steal. One way to find out @ Cor ........ why don't you buy a pair (you would be needn it) and let me know.

This Sheesham media cabinet would be a good pair with Speaker stand. My wife will be so happy now all wires will be hidden .

Seriously?

I just measured the dimensions using a measuring tape, it really is the perfect height/shape/size for bookshelf speakers if you place the speakers sidewise and use the side as the front.

The only issue i can see is it has a16x12 footprint which is quite huge. A lot of stability, but a lot of space taken up by footprint. Shouldnt be an issue for someone with a house with space though.

Did I seriously just save you 9k? what were you planning to get?? the round chest as an excuse to buy something for the mrs and secretly a bookshelf stand for yourself?

@corElement, that's a great find!

@utkarsh, so who's the person who is really happy? :p And this website is great!
