Hi,

This is my setup..

It uses the WGR614 v7 netgear router.

Due to the following two problems, i am thinking of switching to a powerful router:

1. I watch blueray movies in my projector using my wd media player from the iomega network hard drive. The wd media player and iomega network hard drive are connected to my netgear router. I sometime get network disconnected error in media player and the movie stops.. mostly when i download torrents in my PC.. everything here is wired and weird ;)..

2. Also my iphone is not able to detect this router in my other room, some 20 feet away..

Please suggest a router suitable for me.. i dont do much of wireless stuffs.. but i have two iphones, one lappy and one ipad.. all do general browsing..never do streaming..

thx..

I'm having a similar issue too.

I have a Linksys WRT54g router connecting my Seagate GoFlex with my Sony BDP s370 (both wired). Before connecting the BDP, i dont recall having issues with the GoFlex reporting lost connections. Recently, i get a lot of connection issues (router restarting). I did a firmware upgrade with not much improvement.

Not sure what is causing this. Checked Seagate forum - not much help.

Will a router upgrade help?

Hello boo3dmax,

if you are looking for a good wireless range network, you could check out the Buffalo High power Nfiniti series.

I have used them and gives a very good range along with other features like inbuilt torrent downloader with a host of options. This would help you shut down your PC (if you are using a PC and not a laptop) and save on power when it is powered on just to download torrent.

It has also got a media mode, which i havent checked personally, but the documentation states it can be used for streaming audio/video to other devices as well.

regards,
Prashant

I had similar issues with my Linksys router ( Limited coverage, drops connection). I bought Belkin surf router, but still could not get enough coverage for my home ( 1200 sqft duplex ). Looked for solution and found the below option, Flashed my old routed with DD-WRT frimware and used it as repeater. Now i have full coverage for my home and now i can watch youtube in my bathroom too! :).

guys..

1st )
wgr614 v7 is a G router and i doubt it will be able to handle buffer of HD movies over the air. if its wired and it shows disconnected... then can be a firmware issue.

2nd ) if you are not getting reception after 20 feet then again firmware update.
also check the transmit power in ya iphone in case if we have settings.

else be a diy guy.. wgr614 besides v9 supports dd-wrt / tomato hybrid firmware. increase the transmit power.. put it to max .. add a yagee antenna.. and it will blow the networks off nearby 400 metres..

lolz i was kiddin.. dont put it on full power.. else it will heat up the chip..

but do get dd-wrt / tomato and yes increase the power a bit and it will be all good.
