Anyone having Samsung BD-C5500 blu ray player... I believe that this player plays plenty of media files with subtitles in their respective audio output (2.0, 5.1).

I have heard that it plays audio cd's only till 74 minutes, has anyone tested beyond this time?

Whats the load times for blu ray discs?

I think this player is better than the Sony BDP-S370 at the same price with more options.

Reply from anyone would be great.

Thanks,

I am picking up this player today as I tested it yesterday and it played almost all formats as well as displayed the subtitles for the movies.

I know that this is a little expensive than the Sony BDP-S370 and there are no freebies... but the player supports more formats than the Sony and why compromise for subtitles. Its like paying a little more an additional feature you want.

I got a best price from Croma of Rs. 10990/- MRP 11990/-.

Samsung BD-C5500 Blu Ray Player - Review

Finally I picked up the Samsung Blu ray Player BD-C5500 for Rs. 10,990/-

At first, when I removed the player I thought that I made a mistake but then after I connected and tried all the stuff to play, it was great and I was happy with my decision.

I have a samsung LCD TV and this player uses all most all the functions of the TV from its remote and vice versa. So, this saves me from controlling 2 different remotes. Everything can be done from 1 remote itself.

About the player....

It plays avchd, mkv, avi, mp4, h264, divx and many more video codecs and dts, ac3, aac (max - 2 channel stereo), wma, pcm.

It supports subtitles with all the audio/video codes.

It supports NTFS file system so, there is no need to split movies larger than the 4 GB limit.

Has internet@tv very similar to the sony bravia internet. It has plenty of applications like youtube, google maps, picasa web albums, and many more.

Plays Blu Ray disc, DVD's and Audio CD's flawlessly. The load times are very less.

One great thing about the player is the disc tray - it is covered with a flap which opens only when the tray is opened. So, dust accumulation is at minimum and looks great.

Its remote has neon reflective buttons, so in dark it is very convenient to use.

Firmware are regularly updated on the samsung site, which improves the playability of the player with additional formats.

There are 2 USB connectors, 1 in front covered with a slit cap to protect from dust and 1 in back (doubles up for a wireless network adapter). 1 HDMI for best video 1080p and audio upto 7.1 channels. Optical Out, Component Out, RCA audio and video out connections. 1 RJ 45 Ethernet port for internet connectivity.

Overall a decent player compared to its peers. Has plenty of supports and plays all common video/audio codes.

I am sorry for the delay in replying.... Actually busy in Diwali celebrations.

I actually do not have a usb pen drive greater than 4gb, I shall buy a 16 gb usb very soon and post the details. But I am sure it should play.

Regarding .m2ts, it does not support this format, but you can always use a converter to convert it to mkv and play.

I am listing below the file formats it supports that I have tested.

VIDEOS: .avi, .mkv, .wmv, .mp4, .mpg, .mpeg, Handycam dvd recordings(AVCHD).

AUDIO: .mp3, .wma, 2 channel AAC encoding, 5.1 channel ac3 encodings, 5.1 channel dts encodings.

As, this player does not support 5.1 channel AAC audio encodings, I am converting them to 5.1 channel AC3 audio encoding in a mkv container and enjoying them in my onkyo receiver. The end result is great and the sound effects are mind blowing. My receiver's Dolby Digital 5.1 indicator lites up correctly. And all the conversion just takes 10-15 minutes of time as the video part is copied.

I shall confirm on > 4gb playback of .mp4, .avi, .mkv in NTFS format after Diwali.

Thanks,

I had C6900 which could not generate an MP3 playlist or play continuously beyond a folder.

Also, it had trouble identifying the correct file size of a DVD containing >4GB mkv (was playing only few first minutes as the file was identified as 300MB to 500MB only. I found that this issue was due to the BDP not reading the UDF FS on the DVD and only reading ISO FS (which do not support more than 4GB file size). BR's are all UDF formatted and hence I expected Samsung to support UDF on DVDs as well.

Let me know if this player also has the same issue with the latest firmware.

Hi shail,

I would like to make this statement....

Please look for some other blu ray player, as this was dead in a month's time after purchase.

You can check my post here....

I was using it everyday for about 5-6 hours for playing audio cd's and movies, but suddenly stopped working and had to be returned to the company. Got a refund for the full amount.

I'm waiting for the Sony's latest blu ray player, and shall think of buying that.

No issue playing >4GB file from a NTFS formatted USB volume. However issues exist playing such files off a DVD. It will either play first few MB or if I tweak with the ISO file system, it does play it completely, however still detects incorrect or unavailable play time and will not rewind or forward or resume.

Basically DVDs use UDF (same file system as in BRs) to break the 4GB file size barrier of ISO and these BDPs from Samsung doesn't read UDF data off DVD (which they do for BR anyway). Sony doesn't seem to have this issue as confirmed by another user.
