Samsung Display unveiled two new, game-changing QD-OLED panels today at the CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada, that are expected to reinforce the company’s plans to dominate the premium, self-luminous monitor market.

The new products includes the world’s first 27-inch UHD (3840x2160) OLED panel with 240 Hz refresh rate and 27-inch 500 Hz OLED panel with QHD (2560x1440) resolution, boasting the highest refresh rate when compared to OLED displays currently on the market with the same resolution. Recently, global electronics manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics, Asus, MSI, and others, announced the launch of their 2025 monitor lineups featuring these panels. Samsung Display intends to commence mass production of both panels in the first half of the year.

Samsung Display’s new 27-inch UHD monitor panel with a pixel density of 160 pixels per inch (PPI) is characterized by a much clearer image quality than existing 27-inch panels on the market. Compared to the 31.5-inch UHD panel developed by Samsung Display just a year ago, both panels have UHD resolution, but the 27-inch panel has a higher PPI and clearer image quality due to the different screen sizes.

The higher the PPI, the clearer the screen becomes, allowing for sharp, unbroken images even when text or images are enlarged. This clarity is particularly beneficial when editing photos or making videos, as it allows for detailed work. Additionally, when watching movies or playing games, users can experience vivid immersion due to the high-quality display.

The 27-inch QHD panel stands out with the highest refresh rate of 500 Hz among existing self-luminous monitors, holding its own even against LCD monitors. While 25-inch and 27-inch LCD monitors supporting a 500 Hz refresh rate have been available since 2022, their image quality is typically limited to FHD (1920x1080) resolution. In contrast, the combination of a high-refresh-rate and a fast response speed (0.03 ms level), a unique characteristic of self-luminous displays, allows for a more natural and smooth viewing experience. This is particularly noticeable when watching games or sports videos with fast screen changes and lots of movement.

“The 27-inch model makes up more than a quarter of the entire monitor market, and we’re seeing a rapid increase in the popularity of 27-inch gaming monitors,” said Brad Jung, Vice President and Head of the Large Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display. “By incorporating high-resolution and high-refresh-rate specifications into the size that consumers prefer, we anticipate a significant impact on the gaming monitor market.”

Samsung Display plans to address customers’ interests by showcasing a variety of monitor lineups at CES 2025, including new panels like the 31.5-inch UHD, and 49-inch Dual QHD (5120x1440).
