I had this posted with different header and then realized that some of the contents should be posted under different Head to get suggestions.
@Mods - if needed please delete the other thread about Samsung offer.

I had planned on Sony KDL 46NX720 or on Samsung 46D6600WR and finally I have narrowed down to Samsung as I had read that their PQ is good for SD as well as HD content. Most of viewing in a normal day is Regional SD channels and weekends with Sports HD & Movies HD.

I had also read that Web browsing in the above tv's are not good and hence will restrict to general STB Viewing. Got a PS3 and can someone clarify whether there are any compatible issues if i go for Samsung?

What is the significance of having DVB-T ready, if I am using Airtel HD STB and connect using HDMI?

I had also read in 1 of the posts that prices will only increase due to Excise duty increase even though the panel costs may come down on smaller sizes. Is this correct? And if newer models come, I suppose the above mentioned models may also see a drop in price or it will take some time?

I had read in this forum that it is not possible to know the panel type unless we open the box. So how to make certain I get the SPV-A type? Does using the shortcut mentioned elsewhere to ascertain the panel type damage the tv system?

I had checked prices in Croma and Reliance and both quoted 120K for Sony and 125K for Samsung. For Samsung D7000 price is 133K in Reliance.

Any input will be appreciated.

The excise duty as no effect on Sony/panasnonic/sharp since they are directly imported, its only LG and samsung which are made in india that have the excise duties.

Now both are really good tvs,but the NX720 being a edge lit local dimming tv(meaning has limited zones) should have the edge in contrast. It also has a strong gorilla glass with 2 anti glare coatings to minimize the outside reflection and also to minimize the lcd to the outside glass layer(in this case gorrilla glass) in the front.lg tvs with a similar design had this problem of internal reflection between the lcd and outside glass, causing a ghost image .

As far as DVB-T you may or may not get the DD transmission which is the only channel to be broadcasted in DVB-T.

If you are using any STB the built in tuner of tv is useless.

As far as panel is concerned in the 46" size in series 6 you will mostly only get a SPVA panel ,the Sony also has a SPVA panel.

Determining the panel type won't damage the tv.
