Someone is selling this monster amp and he says that it is one of the best amps Sansui ever made, probably weighing around 23 KG. He is asking for 40,000 for this beast. Condition looks very good and the SQ is warm. Is it worth this price?

This was a killer amp when it was released in 1972 and sold for 135,000 yen.
My humble 2 bits: With a lot of these vintage amps, looks can be deceiving. Get hold of an expert and ask the owner to let you have a look at the insides. If he has never had it repaired, this shouldn't be a problem.
If the owner is hesitant to do this, there could be problems. Check for things like scuff marks on the screws or around them - a sure sign the set has been opened up.
Also the price of 40K is on the higher side. Obviously a sign of the owner getting carried away by inflated prices online for all vintage gear, regardless of their quality.

cool but at this price it requires through check - considering it is 42 year old amp.

ask him to send hi rres images of insides

hi,fortunately i compared both the 9500 and au717 with JBL L196 speakers.for me the AU717 is more punchy and well in control of the large jbl woofers and its dual mono design.
the seller refused to sell the 717.Hence come home empty handed. i didnt like the 9500 lifeless bass.
finally purchased a fully recapped 717 from us and i am very very happy.
