Friends,

I am hit with a biamp bug, and need your help.

I have three options mentioned below and let me know which would be the best and value for money.

Current setup: Integrated amp and a FS.

1. Integrated amp has pre out hence connect Monoblocks to preout and feed to FS( The integrated amp just acts as preamp and I am wasting the integrated amp power)

2. Biamp and connect Integrated amp to HF section and MONOblocks to bass section of FS

3. Biamp and connect Integrated amp to HF and STEREO POWERED AMP to bass ( It will save money since stereo power amp cost much less than mono)

which among the three sound best and value for money?

Have you checked if the level of the pre out fixed, or does it change with the volume control? (ie it is a true pre out, and not a line out)

also, 2 vs 3 depends on your budget. towards the lower end, 3 makes sense as there arent many cheap moboblocks. but towards higher end, a stereo amp will have several pre components which drive up the price and make two monos better value

Okie, Let me put the exact model then it would give some clarity:

I own exposure 3010s2D Integrated amp rated 110/per channel. My FS is b&w 683 which has a nominal impedance of about 3ohms.

Thinking to upgrade to, I mean add to my existing system

1. Stereo Power amp Exposure 3010s2 rated 100/per channel
2. Exposure 3010s2 monoblocks rated 100/per channel

Hi Santosh

Namskara!

My personal opinion-for relatively low sensitivity speakers not much value in biamping. It's a different story when you move to high sensitivity speakers though-you may benefit from biamping. For an Altec 2 way I plan to try biamping using higher power push pull or SS Class A for the LFs and lower power Class A SETs for the HFs. Ultimately it's all about your personal preference. Sorry if I am not more specific, but if you have any specific questions please ask!

Thanks George,

What I got to know is just the stereo amp for LF through biamping wont help hence I need to go for MOnoblocks. Still checking with the company, on how would it be to just biamp my integrated with monoblocks or just to go completly with monoblocks without biamping.

Regards,
San

there is a pair of exposure 3010 monoblocks in Bangalore. The FM has opted to go the devialet way - maybe you can try to see if he will permit you for a home audition for the exposure monos.

While monoblocks are generally considered better, its not absolute. I have a couple of stereo amps which sound very nice. I have multiple monoblocks including a full dual mono(built on a single chassis but true monoblocks, Class A SET using 45 tubes@ 2.5 wpc) which also sound good. Separates-pre and power are also a good upgrade to consider. Bottom line try different optios till you find what you like best.

Hmm..

Well backing off from upgrade and thanks for all your suggestions.. I would go with my current setup for few more years(will I ? :-) ) will think of upgrade later as suggested.. will enjoy the music and the current setup is still the best of my choice. Thank you friends.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
