FHD is absolute waste of money in 32".
It produces worser SD pictures, same HD picture and costs more!

Before joining this site I am not sure of this point..but here almost 90% of the people are telling that for 32" HD would be good... Just want to check the trend with survey...Thanks for your participation

its not much about the resolution... but FHD Tv's usually have better panel technology and better processing, being higher end.
samsung 32D550 at 29K is way better than 32D450 at 26K, owing to the better panel contrast, and being better specified, not just because of resolution.:)

It's always a better idea to go for higher specced version if budget is not a constraint.along with resolution normally higher versions come with better response times and contrast ratios.

Hey,

Is this your first LCD or you have got many. When are you going to upgrade and buy the next LCD? Ask yourself this question. ? If it is not in the near furture then go for Full HD or else HD ready will also do. There are currently not many channels that are Full HD. Check the channels that interests you are Full HD or not. Go to a showroom, demo the FHD and SD channels for yourself on the TV suggested by you, Also tell the showroom guy to attach a bluray player. Play the movie and compare the PQ on both TV's. Be the judge. It will tell you whether to spend that extra 4K or not. It will also depends upon when u plan to upgrade.

Cheers,
Sid.

1. If you are using the TV to watch standard channels, like DTH or cable or DVD player, HD will be sufficient.

2. If you are going to watch it from more than 7-8 feet, HD will be sufficient even if the contents include full HD.

3. If you are planning to use as a PC monitor, or watch at close distance, say, 4-5 ft, and have full HD content, then definitely go for full HD.

3. If you have money to spend, go for the latest, trendiest and full specification TV.

Now decide yourself.

Thanks for taking time out and helping me....

This is my first LCD... and no plans in near future..
80% of the time TV is used to see DTH channels..normal and HD
My hall is big its 24feet length and 13feet width... So viewing distance is more than 6 feet
I can spend money but don't want to spend without getting anything extra
Will panel contrast would be different in HD and FHD??

I checked FHD channels on HD and FHD TVs.. and at least I didn't find much difference

So as of now my 70% vote is HD and remaining 30% for FHD. I will go to showroom n decide there..

By the way for the mentioned hall size will 32" will look smaller? No plan to go for 40" but just curious to know..

waiting for your comments

Regards

For the size of the room 32" will be smaller, you should atleast go for 40" ,may 42" plasma.

If you are going to use it as a monitor for your comp at least for some time each week, then fullHD is good.

Only for TV its not really needed.

I had the same dilemma 3 yrs ago when i bought my SONY 32 inch LCD HD READY(i even made similar thread during my purchase),after 3 yrs of usage and RND of HDTVs available i have realized actually FHDs are better options....

I know many at HIFIVISION won't agree with me......But I do own HD Ready and you can take my word....

Believe me there is a difference btw FHD and HD Ready especially if you see from less than 5 feet......even if your viewing distance is more than 5 feet...still better to go with FHD, images are more crisper in FHD based on my experience with my sony hd ready set....go take a 700 DVD rip movie to the shop on a USB and see for urself and u will be surprised to see majority of people favoring hd ready! (but i do agree the difference is not HUGE)

Also, Yes , after 1 yr u will find 32 inches Smaller, same thing happened to me when i stwitched from CRT to lcd, i thought 32 inch was superb at that time but after 1 yr i realised i needed an upgrade in size...

Ok... Let me discuss with my family regarding 40 / 42" TV... Not sure whether it is going to be success or not... But If I go for 40" then definitely my budget will not cross 40K.. I checked Samsung 40D550 yesterday and it is coming around 41K... this has 40" and FHD as well...

What you guys say for this model?

You can get 42/43" plasma for less than 40k,if you are ok with plasma.

If I were you, I would be sad when my DTH is 1080i and my media player is 1080p but my TV is only 720p.

Its just like an amplifier. A 70W amp will have better components and circuitry than a 40W amp of same series.

One of my friend bought a 720p Toshiba power TV PB1, I was shocked to see the lack of features in it. For instance, he is struggling with just one HDMI input on TV. So it is not just about resolution, but also about quality (color, brightness, range etc) and features. Yes there may no noticeable difference beyond a distance, but what is wrong in it. Go for FHD, you won't regret.

While all the points are valid, it can be argued either ways.. Like, the electronics in low end LCDs may be able to handle 720p better than 1080p screen wrt motion, upscaling of low quality SD signal is better in 720p TVs etc.

I Have personally not seen a HD or FHD video that looks BAD in either of 720p or 1080p TVs. It is always the SD videos which look bad and 720p TVs produces much better results with SD. (This is not IMO, you can see it yourself in the showroom).

Also, given the TVs in question being D450 vs D550, there isn't any feature/panel differences except the resolution. So number of HDMI etc will not be an issue here.

Ofcouse if you are going to use the TV as a monitor for even short periods or if your viewing requires sitting closer than 6 foot, go for D550 without a thought. Else what you will get is a good amount of placebo happyness that you are owing a FHD TV. If it is worth 4k, go for it. ;)

With such a big hall and longer viewing distance, I would suggest to go for largest size display you can afford. The viewing distance is very important in full HD, that is for availing the benefit of more details. FHD has five times more resolution than SD and aabout thrice than HD, the benefit of FHD can be had only if you sit at a distance of about 1.5 to 2 times the diagonal screen size. So in case of a 32 inch display, the optimum distance to get benefit of FHD is 48 inch. That is four feet. Beyond that you will lost the details available in a FHD display. With such a big hall, even if you sit at 12 ft, the advantage of FHD can be obtained only if the display is at least 6ft diagonal. Such large displays cost absurd amounts. So go for large displays that your pockets may allow.

Even a 50 inch HD plasma will be small for your room. If possible try to demo one and check whether is is affordable to you.

HD / FHD discussions are irrelevant for such big halls and large viewing distances.

My dear frnd,
All the points raised are ok and justified. But i want to add few qsn/points.
1. Whts the source for Full HD you are having?
2. For dth the best u get is 1080p which is HD not full HD.
3. If you are going to use for monitor in 32 inches then only you will see the difference else NO.
4. For money wise big size go for Plasma, only negative is the power consumption and light reflection.

My suggestion go to a electronic store and play HD channels and some FHD content on the 32 inch tv both HD ready and full HD and write your own observation. That will help you and many others who are in the same confusion.

Waiting for your reply.
