Need some help guys about buying the Headphone.

The headphone will be used for
(i) listening to music (mostly gazals, blues and Yanni/Kenny G) from my Samsung Andriod phone and laptop.
(ii)Mostly late night TV (Movies/Documentry/Music) without disturbing the wife and the kids. - Hence the closed type

I would like the headphone with good Bass and for this reason I have zeroed in to HD 439 over HD449s. Apart from other specs the two detachable chords of varying length (1.4mts and 3mts) will be handy for the portability.

Cost-wise also this headphone in not very expansive .. they are available for about 3900 bucks.

The other headphone I have shortlisted is ATH-M50s. But they are hugely expensive in India at about 13-14K. The other option is to get it through friends in US at half the price although that will involve waiting for few months.

I have ordered the Fiio D3 and E6 from the Dealextreme which should be here in 2-3 weeks.

Hi @dinesha.. if you like in-ear headphones, I could suggest you RHA MA-350 over any sub 100 headphones. I received this headphone today only and connected with my nexus 7. Audio quality is simply superb.

Mid range is so clear. Since morning, I've been listening to different genre music. Listened few of Pankaj Udhas ghazals as well.

I can directly compare this headphone with Bose MIE2i Mobile headset (borrowed it from my colleague for quick comparison). I've listened the same track in both the headphones and found Bose is bass heavy only. Midrange is not at all clear.

The only downside is... RHA is not bass heavy. But the positive side is it's midrange. Which makes it perfect for vocals (like ghazal).
And it costs 1/4 of the Bose.

BTW... this headphone won whathifi award. :)

For over ear headphone, you can check Plantronics Gamecom series. They make some quality headphones. I own one and I am very much satisfied with the audio quality.

Thanks a lot for the advice however I am looking a headphone which will do me good for late night TV watching without disturbing others.
I am looking for closed type "Around the Ear" headphones for the comfort factor as well as listening experience.
I am not sure of gaming headphone either.

I would request the members to help me in identifying the right headphones and their valuable suggestions. Thanks again.

No response... I hope somebody will give some helpful comment.. Btw; My preference is tilting towards M50s.

In the meantime I have received my Fiio D3 and E6 from the Dealextreme.

I use my open-back Audio-Technicas for late-night listening. Could I use them, say, in bed? Absolutely not. In the next room with only a thin door between me and sleeping wife? No problem.

Anyone in the same room would be aware of the leaking sound. Whether or not they would be disturbed would depend on them. However, there is no problem at all in a quiet house with others sleeping.

Being relatively new to headphones, it took me a while to cross the psychological barrier of turning the volume up :o

In some ways, open-backs are less antisocial: you can hear if wife or child calls out; you can hear the phone, the doorbell, etc. Closed-back 'phones are very isolating. I never liked that feeling, except in-ear stuff for commuting travelling.

Let me add Sennheiser CX-300 (or CX-300 II) to your list. This an IEM, but will serve the purpose well, except the cord length, which is standard and you may find that limiting.

I have owned half a dozen IEMs under USD 30, and no other phone gave me as much joy as the CX-300. It's sound is not in audiophile territory, but it's an amazingly enjoyable phone for the money. Specifically, it's a great companion to any smartphone, due to it's very high sensitivity.

Bought a Sennheiser HD439 just 4 days back from eBay for Rs.4000/-.. out of the box SQ was terrible, but after about 10-12hrs of break in it has opened up and bass too is better, but a lot depends on the source. When I was listening to CD via my receiver the SQ was really good .Came across many reviews in which it was mentioned it gets better after abt 20hrs.. lets see. I had auditioned the Snugz from Sonodyne and found the demo one far better than HD439. I forgot to carry my iPod when i demoed the Snugz, the sonodyne guy played few tracks from his nokia music series phone.. and the sound was very good for a Rs4650/-. Sometimes i feel that I should have gone with the snugz.

The entire range of BOSE headphones are bandwidth limited on the top & bottom just like the rest of their audio systems.

I have to agree that "CX-300 II Precision" & "CX-400 II Precision" offers you a fantastic bang for the buck sound.

To overtake that, you gotta spend a lot, lot more.

Both these models come "Highly recommended"

go for HD 439, as you are using fiio amp ( 439 requires a little amping ;) )
check for 'goldenears' review on 439, google it for more details
you could have went for e7 instead of d3+e6

Those little buggers sound so magnificent for the money, I bought a black pair despite having a white one. Just because they were too cheap not to get a matching color.
