Since the start of #IPL, #India did not win #T20WorldCup - Wasim Akram

The absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja due to injuries was clearly felt. Our top 3 batsmen adopted conservative approach in this T20 world cup. India did not capitalise fielding restrictions in the power play and they adopted a safe conservative approach rather than adopting aggressive and attacking approach. As Sunil Gavaskar, pointed out, it is time for Rohit, Rahul, Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik, Mohd Shami, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, to be sacked from T 20 team. Hardik pandya should take over as the captain, with Rishabh Pant being his deputy. It is time to take hard tough decisions. Whether BCCI, selection committee, will do that, remains to be seen.

However, the mega buck bonanzo, the IPL, is going to start in 4 months time. All our players will be back to form by then.

Angoor Khatte Hai!
Why do you say that? Pakistan is in the finals and still in the reckoning to win this edition. Moreover, Wasim isn’t known to be jingoistic. And he is making a very valid point of Indian players inexperience of overseas leagues which isn’t yet allowed.

Agree with every single point. I’d add that we need to explore a different coach for white ball cricket. I’d even think of someone like Eoin Morgan who led the English Renaissance in white ball cricket.

All the Indian player are very comfortable playing in India for IPL since they are getting enough big fat money thru advertisements... So they are less pressurised if they are not winning and performing in WC.. Earlier there is only play among the countries. Now it is among the states. Money involved in the local is huge comparing to outside world. Plus the board is also making huge money out of local cricket. So they are not bothered about the World matches.

Once international players are restricted from playing local cricket , the seriousness in concentrating for World cup plus other matches will increase among the international players.

I just read the headline. As Pak players aren't aloowed in IPL now, may be finding faults in IPL for India's poor show.

More, India didn't exactly failed in WC. Only lost one leauge game and reached semis. The two things cost India most were poor form of openers and conservsative ODI like approach in intial overs.

Now, It's good time to go for Rohit, Kohli. But, I wouldn't want to let KL go. I would rather shift him to middle order. he is a better fit there. I also belive SKY as main stay at No 4 is mistake. He is a hit or mis kinda guys. Wants to play rock start shot every ball. He needs to be used in top 3 as smash bang option.

My batting order would be Pant, Shaw, Sky, Iyer, Rahul, Pandya, Jadeja. Shaw Sky go Bang Bang, rest play as per need. We also need a couple more bowling all rounders like Eng have. A someone in Top 5 who can bowl also adda good value. After Sehewag, Yuvraj we didn't have any such player. Our team has always been of specialists. Pandya, Jadeja have been regular only recently.

Barring Ashwin, Bowlers did well except last game. We also have lot of depth in bowling too. Bumrah, Bhuvi, Shami, Harshal, Chahar, Arshdeep, Shardul, Yadav, Natrajan, SIraj and rest in fast bowling, Chahal, Bishnoi, Axar, Jadeja and all in spin ...

We did select Hooda and Venkatesh Iyer before that. But the captain/coach didn’t give them a bowl at all.

Depends how we look at it. We painstakingly won just one match against a top team.

Axar didn’t do much either. We played the wrong set of spinners (finger spinners) and they couldn’t any wickets in the middle overs.

My batting order would be Pant, Shaw, Sky, Iyer, Rahul, Pandya, Jadeja.
I’d add Ishan Kishan to the mix. He hasn’t done badly in the chances he got. As for Shaw, I wonder if he is in the bad books of someone who matters.

The first and foremost thing to be done is to STOP overhyped treatment of cricketers in social media and other online platforms....no commercial endorsement for players debuting for first 2 years...no advertising in TV before any tour or tournament....and foremost..bring down the amount of money paid to players in IPL and give incentives for performing for India at international tours..such that the money given for it should exceed the IPL payment..yes .it's possible..BCCI has more in its kitty..it can surely give...don't recognise IPL performance at all...just do this..then u see the magic...but easier said than done.

We just scraped through in pak and bangladesh match, lost to SA and then won against weak teams, to start with our team was not strong enough to go through to the finals
the team needs a proper strategist and someone who can manage the talent well like Dhoni ( he should be groomed to be a coach ) i don't see anyone with enough brains to make a real difference even in the long run with the team now

I too felt than our team didn't perform as champions.Even with weak teams, their approach was defensive. On other had ,England played with confidence same like one day semis . Most of IPL stars are not doing Internationally.

IMHO, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma need to go. Too slow and conservative for 20 over cricket. Rohit will probably retire after the ODI World Cup 2023 next November and hopefully after we win the trophy on home turf🤞🤞🤞 Prithvi Shaw / Sanju Samson should be in T20/ODI squad. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a spent force. Bumrah suffered a stress fracture at the wrong time. Umran Malik and his ilk need to be in the T20 / ODI / Test squad. India desperately needs tearaways who can blast an opposition with 150kmph. Look at Pakistan consistently producing express pacers! I'm sure a country of 1.4 billion can do 1000 times better. Swing around 130kmph + won't frighten anyone nowadays. OTOH swing around 145+ is a different ball game. Pure pace is always an invaluable asset! About time the land of spinners produced bowlers who can actually spin a cricket ball. Ravi Bishnoi could be brought in. Axar / Ashwin should retire from T20.

I strongly agree with all that is said here. Sanju Samson ,Shaw and a few more young talents have not been given a fair chance while some others are given undue consideration including Pant.

I have been watching cricket from the time the first DD national cricket telecast in 1982 featured India's tour of Pakistan. Once cable TV hit India in the early 1990s, I have been watching cricket from all over the world. Based on my experience of following the game, I can say for sure that India should pick young stars for the T20 Asian and Global tournaments. When we did that, we won the T20 world cup. ODI and Test stars should focus only on those formats. I hope the selectors wake up and smell the coffee!

Somehow, I have noticed a lack of aggression with the exit of Ravi Shastri. T20 cricket may not be Rahul Dravid's cup of tea!
