I would like to make a collective guide for SmartTV platforms.
So, Which smartTV platform do you suggest and why ?
1) raspberry pi -- $25 - $35
2) Android stick -- Around $75-$100
3) Android TV -- $150 ( For ex: Asus Cube)
4) Samsung Smart TV -- You need to buy whole TV, or A Blu-Ray Player. Usually Costs $100 more than equivalent dumb sammy TV.
Huge list of apps, myself developed an app.
5) LG Smart TV -- More or less same as cost wise, but not many apps. Also LG is not pushing the developers, so you may not see many apps in future too.
I suggest to go for raspberry pi if you are technically savvy, you can run full android or any operating system on it. You can pretty much use it for Skype and running web browser on it. Basically, you won't get a remote, so you need to use a keyboard, so I guess this will complicate for some people. But, you can make a cheap $15 USB Camera get to work with this.
But, if you don't want to complicate, Most of the people interested in using TV for Skype, so I think it is best to go for Samsung Smart TV or any other equivalent TV.
But, what makes Samsung Smart TV more mature is, you can have tv running, and get the FB or Twitter or any App come on the side of the screen.
