Hi,

I am searching for a software which can play blu-ray rips (folder in hdd having .bdmv files). I also want this player to bitstream HD Audio through HDMI port.

I tried PowerDVD 11, Arcsoft TMT 5.0.1.114, but they are not playing the index.bdmv file.

I tried MPC-HC as well, but it says cannot render. any idea how to configure MPC-HC to play .bdmv file.

I am also searching for a reliable external Blu-ray drive (USB), with Bill and Warranty in India. Any suggestions on make and model

MPCHC,Potsplayer,Splash,PowerDVD10 or above does well.
MPCHC is free, but your graphic card should support HD playback.

I think what the OP is looking at a software player which can play the .bdmv movies with menu support. I think PowerDVD11 & Arcsoft play thru the hdd with bd menu support. I can confirm that I can play with bd menu if played thru blu-ray disk thru both PowerDVD11 and Arcsoft TMT 5. Not sure that the same works when played over the hdd. But I do not think the mpchc/potplayer or any other player plays them with bd menu support as it requires some Java compliance/license.

Thanks

If you have copied the Blu-ray without any modification, for PowerDVD, what is in the disk and the HDD are both the same.

Cheers

why do you want a USB BD drive, you already have Oppo. If you are looking for BD Drive for read purpose only and no writing required on BDs then look on ebay, plenty available in 6K range. But if USB enabled BD writing is required you have to look at 10K+ models

I think with MPCHC,you can get menu & subtitles if you add filter, not sure.

I am planning to rip some of the BDs I have and keep a backup copy in my external HDD. I watch some of my favorite BD movies many times and afraid that Disc will go bad one day. I don't want to buy again at that time.

I checked on ebay, may are available. I doubt the reliability of the slim models, many are not branded. I would like get opinion from HTPC users on a model they used.

They added a check feature which will not play .bdmv files from HDD. Latest versions of Power DVD 11 and all versions of Power DVD 12 won't play .bdmv files from HDD. I checked with PDVD 12, it is playing .bdmv.

Then in that case if somebody is coming down from US then there are some good deals going on in newegg.com for the external usb blu-ray drive. And for ripping you don't need the write capability so a just read blu-ray drive should be more than sufficient. Check the models from samsung/lg/asus..

Thanks

I installed Power DVD 10, I am not able to play .bdmv file.
While browsing it is not showing this file (not supported format).
Looks like it will play only from a Blu-ray Disc

Is there any procedure I have to follow to play the .bdmv file?

Then did you try ripping the bd movie in .iso format which can hold the menu's as well. Can you try this option and as far as I know both PowerDVD and Arcsoft TMT should be able to read the .iso format with menus, I tried in xbmc/mpc-hc/potplayer and they do not support the menus as I mentioned earlier because of the java license.

Thanks

Folks, you have to first make the disc free by using something like AnyDVD. Then you have to create a folder on you harddisk, and just copy all the files from the disk. After this is done, ask PowerDVD to 'Open a folder in the hard disk', and then point it to the folder with the files. It works flawlessly for me.

Creating an ISO is also another option. When you create an ISO, you have to have a software to 'mount' the ISO file as a drive. The best for this is Virtual Clone Drive available from Slysoft.

HTUser, I use LG BD internal writer (available in India for 4.5 K but I imported some time back just after lauch for about 5K) for my HTPC. I have ripped many BDs using this but have converted to mkv using Makemkv with no loss in Audio and Video, better than BDMV copying. But if you want full backup then look for backing up in ISO format and then playback via virtual drive software. If menu is not required MakeMKV is the best.

I have not tried BD writing though.

Please try to play .M2TS file under /BDMV/STREAM/ this file contain video and audio. Any Player ie Powerdvd 12, TMT , Media Player Classic will support .m2ts but menu are not supported.

Have you tried using XBMC ? I think even that is capable of playing .bdmv with menu support. I use it in my linux box and am very happy with it !
infact, i moved out from using vlc since the time i tried this XBMC player. check it out if it solves your issue

I have the blu-ray rips played by xbmc and it does not support bd-menu. It is clearly mentioned in the xbmc that they do not have the Java license that is required for this bd-menu to show up. This is not a open freeware license and hence xbmc is working on its own code to implement the same in xbmc without depending on the license. The xbmc automatically picks up the .m2ts file and plays them without any issue. Its nice and free.

Thanks

I was comparing Potplayer with other yesterday & found audio out from standard DD/Dts is far superior & clean than others. The noise was much less, soundstage was good with proper separation.Only issue is I am not able to bitstream HD audio even after following online Guide steps.
So can any one let me know the perfect settings to Bitstream?

If you like potplayer then you can refer to this setting site. This site is very exhaustive and I had used it and was able to get bitstreaming.

Thanks
