Hi there peeps,

Would like your expert opinion on sub woofer cables.
My current system is a Denon AVR 2313 with two Velodyn EQ-Max 10 subwoofers. The subwoofers cables I use are stock Bandridge subwoofer cables I bought of the net. I dont remember the model number though. They are decent.

I am shifting to a new place where the wiring demands a sub woofer cable length of 15 meters, which means I cant buy a stock sub woofer cable as most companies only make cables of max 10 meter length. (To my knowledge)
The next option is to buy from a spool the desired length required and solder the pins.

I have been given an option between Chord Crimson Red and DAC ARSW11C
Any opinions on which would be better? Or if any better options are available in the market? Also where I can source good pins.

I'm based in Kerala, but can pick up stuff from Bangalore

Thanks

Philip

15m is too long to carry line level signal. Try to place them closer.
Nevertheless, buy cable with nice shielding and with silver content as it sounds better when paired with sub woofer.

I think you are routing the cable so that it remains hidden. The main concern about long sub cable runs is noise and hum ingress. Keeping it far away from things like AC lines, motors, transformers, etc., if at all possible is best.

The maximum cable length I have come across is 5 metres (15 ft) as people prefer to position their subs neat the corners of the front wall behind their audio racks. Though we all tend to believe sub frequencies are difficult to locate, above 60 and definitely above 80 Hz, the presence of the subs becomes quite evident and distracting. It all depends on the crossover. As long as your sub crosses over at 40 Hz or so, you can place it anywhere. Even at that cutoff, it does not act like a brickwall and still creates the next overtone of 80 Hz.

I used to have a pair of Rel subs crossing over at around 32 Hz which I sold to arj. My main speakers now have built-in woofers with amplifiers and I do not need to run separate cables. I still have a pair of cables meant for subs, one from Audioquest and one from XLO, each 3 metres long (10 ft).

cheers.

Thank you for all your suggestions.
@Rupam yes one of the reasons why cable has ended up being so long is because I have routed it through the wall to conceal it. I think i have done a good job to ensure that the routing stays clear of nearby electrical interferences.
@Koushik Do you have any brands in mind for silver shielded subwoofer cables?
@baijuxavier I did have a look around for wireless signal receivers, but what I have come across are very pedestrian and i fear signal loss is going to be much more.
@murali Will definitely play around with placement a bit.

I personally think there is no harm in using decent Finolex cable instead of expensive brand name stuff. I have a 12-15m run of speaker wire from my amp. My subs are placed quite close to my preamps/preamp processors, but that just happened.

I come on and off to Kottayam, met Kuruvilla Jacob at his place in Chingavanam on my last trip and will connect up with you on a future trip-likely only after 2-3 months.

Cheers
