Guys, I am not able to decide if I should go for 42W850 or 46W950.
42W850 has a serious issue with the black level but for my hall the size suits well. 40incher seems too low. Could 46 incher be too large?
Viewing distance is about 8 to 9 feets.
I'd prefer the large screen for watching blu-ray because the top/bottom black bars will anyways cut the image. but otherwise watching regular TV/news should not be a problem for other family members. I have a 42 incher and hence can say it suits well, but i dont want to go for 42W850.

please advise what should be normal viewing distance for 46W950 and how is the response time for PS3 gaming.

Reply as soon as you can. I plan to buy before weekend :):):)

PS: 46W950 comes with free PS3...has anybody bought this package?

i have 46 w950 veiwing distance is abt 9 feet and to be honest its beginning to look small to me , go ahead with 46inch dont bother about 40 or 42 inch

I have 46w950.. you need pics?

mine only 8 feet view distance..and i feel 46inch is too small .. always go for 55 inch future proof.

dont go for 850...it sucks.

Thanks for the link Prgk13, it seems 9ft is good distance for watching a 46incher according to this calculations.
But doesnt it seem impractical? The excel says for a 42 inch TV (1.07m), the shortest recommended distance is 2.2ft, which is 0.66m.

Hey Thanks! do you feel any eye strain when you watch a fast action movie from 8feet onwards? which TV set is this? I know it wont matter when i watch 2:35:1 blurays because the screen size will reduce due to the black bars, but what about HD channels like star movies? would love to see some pics :)

PS: why does w850 suck? just black levels or even otherwise for 2d quality. Did you compare it with w900/w950? I liked the passive 3d though...

given a second chance i would also go for 55inch i also feel 46inch looks small now more due to the superb picture quality of w950 :o

55 inch is very good and best ..but not in budget .. thats why took 46 inch

W950 has local dimming(LED dynamic control) ..but even with local dimming off .. black levels are good.. better than CRT & Plasmas in HD.
even trilumious feature(Live colour option) disabled .. it produces vibrant colors in HD
I dont know the use of motionflow ..even with motionflow disabled ..picture is good.

try this 50 inch http://www.sony.co.in/product/kdl-50w800b ..

many neighbours told me my tv looks small not like regular 46 inch.... so for showoff and future proof go for 50 & 55 inches

I agree, in first look it seems impractical. but, please see the 5th point in that excel file below the table, which reads as below,
"5. Shortest Recommended Viewing Distance based on Field-of-View being too wide: This distance is based on the peripheral vision field-of-view of the human eye. The average field-of-view width for the human eye is 140 degrees. The rule is that if the viewer sits any closer than this distance to the screen and looks at one side of the screen, they will not be able to see the other side of the screen with their peripheral vision. This equates to a 70-degree field-of-view when the person is looking at the center of the screen."
I think IMO the author says you can not see if u sit closer than that 2.2ft distance in 42" tv with 16:9 ratio and its related to peripheral vision of the human eye. To know better pl take time and also see the other points like Visual Acuity, screen distance from floor, top view, etc. I'm not saying it applies to all but, we can get some idea to accommodate them with our requirement.

Most of here are saying 'bigger' is better. but the word 'bigger' may seems smaller in view of other person. one who already has 55" may not go for 32 or 40" cause it seems smaller to him, like wise on who has 32 he looks for 40 or bigger. so the question is how 'big' you want? its all depends on your perception, expectation and mainly your wallet!!! The simple idea is just to think about your current requirement plus 10-30% increase in budget to manage the advancement in change of the technology for next 3-5years. other than this before finalizing pl read/consider 'life span' thing (a good thread is on discussion in this forum, pl read).

People here and me can say either what is good for us personally or in general. So decide yourself what is good for YOU based on these recommendations. Any how good luck :)

How much did it costed you back then? I am getting one at pretty good price but i feel its costly considering so many upgrades over it and 3D has been a flop for tv's
