Sony BDP-S560 blu ray ..... a good buy ??

I am getting a Sony Blu ray S560 for 11k ( all inclusive ) but it is from US and for Region A.

My question is : how does this compare to the 360/370 BDP avlbl here ..

Can the S560 be made region-free ??

I think this has been discussed in a separate thread on sony 360 that the Sony's cannot be modded. However, a Region A player may not have too many issues as there are lots of options available and the movie prices are price competitive.

However, the risks are that from the last 6 months I have noticed that Amazon UK is consistently cheaper than Amazon US by around 5USD per BD or even higher. Secondly, many BD's in India may not play as they will be Region C.

Currently, around 60-75% BD's are region free. I would think you are better off buying a Panasonic or an Oppo Bdp 80 at the same price which can be made region free much more easily.

yeah.. something like this may have been discussed.

my plan is to dump the PS3 as a BDP and go for a stand-alone BDP.

My options : 370, 560 Sony or Oppo (??Price)

You are right, my miss. But I guess you cannot just buy the mod kit as the modification is complex. You need to buy a pre-modded device.

This ebay guy seems to have the full set of players modded for region free, nice link.
