Hi,

A 40 incher Sony HX 750 is worth 78K and an HX850 is available at 94K.

The only features that are different here are:

1) X-Reality PRO vs. X-Reality
2) MotionFlow 800 Hz vs MotionFlow 400 Hz

I want opinions from you guys as to how important each of these features are, to the overall viewing experience. Are these two features worth the extra money that you put in?

If you do have a budget of 94k, suggest to get 46HX750 instead of a 40inch............when it comes to tv's BIG is always better!!!
HX850 is one of Sony's best tv till date, won many awards and very highly rated and reviewed. But I would still go with the bigger size.
You should demo both and then decide.

Also both these models are older 2012 models, also have a look at the new 2013 models. Both the 750 and 850 have been replaced with newer 2013 models.

46 incher too big. 8 ft viewing dist... besides carrying from BKK so diff. to carry 46 incher.

By 2013 models do u mean the HX855 which is available in BKK as opposed to 850 in India, or some other series altogether? I know W series succeeded NX but dont see anything in place of HX series anywhere.

If HX850 is available, I would not go for anything else. I will stretch my budget even. We are getting greedier and hungrier - now 46" is the standard size. Remember, size matters - everywhere ;).

+1 to just4kix

HX850 is an awesome tv, one of the BEST LEDs there...........would make sense to stretch the budget and yes 46inches for sure!!! 8ft distance is not too much for 46inches. I sit 8ft for my 50inch tv, when it comes to tv's bigger is always better. You don't want to get a 40 and then regret later.

W800 replaces HX750
W900 replaces HX850

Honestly folks, stop suggesting to go to 46 inchers or higher! I've already blown a humongous amount of money on the Home Theater! I've stretched from 32 to 40 - I dare not go bigger! I am of a weak mind (so all the suggestions affect it) , and my wallet weeps later! ;)

I took a trip down to the local Croma and checked out a 42 Inch W800 series. As per Croma and Sony India, W900 is not yet launched and will probably only be launched in higher screen sizes. I found a press-release from Sony Hong Kong mentioning a 40 Inch W900 by mid-end of June.

I dug deeper and found that W800 is actually not exactly equal to HX-750. It's between the 750 and 850 in terms of features.

Here's what I found:

Major differences between W800 and W900
Triluminous display in W900
Local Dimming in W900 vs Frame Dimming in W800
MotionFlow 800 in W900 vs Motionflow 400 in W800
Active 3D in W900 vs Passive 3D in W800.

Major differences between HX850 and W800
Motionflow 800 in HX850 vs MF400 in W800
Dynamic Edge LED in HX850 vs LED in W800
No opticontrast panel in W800
MF800 vs MF400

Now, the W800 is a full 10000 Rs. cheaper than the HX 850 and is 2 inches bigger (42 inches)

I auditioned both the W800 and the HX 850 side by side at Croma. Admittedly I didnt check if the picture settings were the same across the TVs, but the HX850's PQ was certainly not better than the W800. They were almost the same. I'm leaning more and more towards the W800.

Any thoughts/ words of caution?

Regarding 3D:

The W800 is on passive 3D whereas the HX850 is on active 3D. I read up, and it seems that active 3D is a premium feature whereas the passive 3D is more of an entry level feature.

Even on the internet it says active 3D looks better. But my experience was just the opposite.

In active 3D (on HX 850): Lots of flicker and judder. All the motionflow advantages go for a toss. The picture judders as much as on my 6 year old LCD! Also, noticable flicker (refresh).

In passive 3D on the W800: Crisp, flicker free images, livelier colours.

Again, any thoughts?

Thanks tanmayj for your first-hand review. Since you have auditioned both the TVs yourself and developed a liking for the w800, there shouldn't be any problem.

Again for 3d, its a no-brainer. Passive is much easier on the eyes. There is some loss of detail and pop, but then you can watch it for more time as compared to active 3d.

If you are not too critical about what you watch and don't spend frantic amount of time searching for black levels and shadow details then I think the W800 is a good option. It will perform very well if your room is well lit. Only dark room performance may not be up to the mark. For that matter HX850 is not the best either.

Go with what you like and suits your budget. Never overspend. There are other priorities in life than a tv. Most of the ratings and reviews are overstated.

Just a quick question. How would you evaluate displays next time you are at stores? The answer will mostly decide what you should be buying.

Actually buying a tv is a different thing than anything else. A tv is like a window to the unseen world.
So it is worth the pain of searching for the right tv. After all, the search in itself is a joy.
In my opinion w800 is one of the best choice w.r.t led tvs in 2013. Someone has even quoted a review that says that it is an improvement over last year's hx750.
And the most gratifying thing for w800 buyers is that the shadow details of the set is better than w900.
Ofcourse when calibrated w900 may equal or beat w800 w.r.t shadow details.

Also, this may be a stupid question, but I gotta be sure.

I hope all these 3d TVs support all the bling associated with HDMI 1.4 including especially ARC...

Guys, I fell in love with the monolithic design especially the Bunchin TV Stand. I am guessing the stand can be used with only the HX series / Monolithic design. Otherwise, i was totally in for buying an w800A. If I am not super techie interms of looking for minute details, but more of a aesthetics guy. What are the factors I should vie before making an decision.
